Job Summary:
California State University, Fullerton is searching for an Associate Vice President for Academic Operations. The Associate Vice President for Academic Operations should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Academic Operations (AVP-Operations) coordinates the management of assigned elements of the Division of Academic Affairs with significant focus on strategic enrollment management, faculty affairs, and institutional research. Works with the Provost to advance the strategic priorities of the University and the division. Ensures effective communication between the Provost's Office and all other University divisions, the Cal State University Chancellor's Office, and the external community. Chairs or serves on a wide range of campus committees. Represents the Provost in various capacities and completes other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides direct administrative oversight of the operations of the following academic and operational units: Records and Registration; Faculty Support Services (Faculty Affairs and Records, Faculty Development Center, Online Education and Training, and Academic Technology Center - jointly with the Division of Information Technology); and Institutional Research and Analytical Studies
  • Supervises the Assistant Vice President for Faculty Support Services, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Services, and Director of Institutional Research and Analytical Studies
  • Works with the Provost to advance the strategic priorities of the University and the division
  • Supports the shared governance process in the development, modification, and implementation of University policies and practices in support of the University's mission and strategic goals
  • Provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of various divisional, cross-divisional, and system-wide initiatives
  • Works in close partnership with the Vice Presidents, Associate/Assistant Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, Academic Senate Chair, and other unit leads
  • Ensures effective communication between the Provost's Office and all other University divisions, the CSU Chancellor's Office, and the external community
  • Represents the Provost on campus, in the community, within the region, and at the system level, on matters delegated by the Provost
  • Serves as executive-in-charge of the division in the absence of the Provost
  • Serves as a member of the Council of Deans and the Provost's Senior Leadership Team
  • Chairs or serves on a wide range of campus committees
  • Provides signatory approval for financial, academic human resources, and other duties delegated by the Provost

    Essential Qualifications:
    Doctorates degree from an accredited college or university, or appropriate terminal degree in a discipline encompassed at the University. Four years of academic administrative experience at the level of chair or higher. Experience in teaching; research, scholarship or creative activity; and service sufficient to be eligible for a tenured appointment in one of the Universitys academic departments. Demonstrated success in strategic planning, program or project management, resource allocation and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Demonstrated effectiveness leading and collaborating with a multicultural environment and success in promoting diversity and inclusion. Demonstrated commitment to shared governance and appreciation for the role of faculty. Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate effectively with faculty, students, staff and administrators, as well as community members in advancing the Universitys mission and achieving its strategic goals and objectives. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.     Special Working Conditions:
    The scope of responsibilities for this position includes the making or participating in the making of decisions that may have a material financial benefit on the incumbent. Therefore, you will be required to file an initial Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests within thirty (30) days from date of hire and on an annual basis; and complete the CSU sponsored ethics on-line training within thirty (30) days of appointment, and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment.
