Monterey Peninsula College is currently accepting applications to establish a pool for future part­time teaching assignments in this discipline.

FALL 2017
Course Title: Music 2, Introduction to Broadway Musicals
Scheduled:
TTh 2:00 pm ­ 3:15 pm
Course Description: Guided listening in understanding the history and development of the American musical stage. Emphasis on music by American composers

Course Title: Music 10C, Music Theory III
Scheduled:
TTh 10:30 am ­ 11:20 am
Course Description: This course incorporates the concepts from Music Theory and Musicianship II. In addition, through writing and analysis, the course will include: introduction to chromatic harmony; secondary/applied chords; modulation; borrowed chords; introduction to Neapolitan and augmented­ sixth chords. This course also applies and develops the rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic materials of Music Theory and Musicianship II through ear training, sight singing, analysis, and dictation

Course Title: Music 11, Sight Singing and Ear Training

Course Description: This course offers lectures and exercises designed to develop the ability to recognize, read, and interpret symbols of music at sight.

Course Title: Music 20, College Choir
Scheduled:

Course Description: This course is for the study, rehearsal, and public performance of literature appropriate to the college choir ensemble, with an emphasis on the development of skills needed to perform within a college choir ensemble. Different literature is studied each semester. Choice of ensemble is based on each student's identified major instrument or voice. This course is designed for the entry­ level singer and performs college choir repertoire that can be mastered in that time frame and that stresses the musical growth and success of the beginning singer. May be taken four times for credit.

Course Title: Music 40, Voice Fundamentals

Course Description: Designed to assist in the development of the solo voice. Attention given to the fundamentals of voice production. Songs in standard literature for solo voice studies.

SPRING 2018

Course Title: Music 10A, Music Theory I
Scheduled:

Course Description: This course, through guided composition and analysis, incorporates the following concepts: rhythm and meter; basic properties of sound; intervals; diatonic scales and triads; diatonic chords, basic cadential formulas and phrase structure; dominant seventh; figured bass symbols; and non­harmonic tones. Development of skills in handwritten notation is expected. This course also applies and develops the rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic materials through ear training, sight singing, analysis, and dictation.

Course Title: Music 10D, Music Theory IV

Course Description: This course incorporates the concepts from Music Theory and Musicianship III. In addition, through writing and analysis, the course will include: post­Romantic techniques such as borrowed chords and modal mixture, chromatic mediants, Neapolitan and augmented­sixth chords, 9th, 11th and 13th chords, altered chords and dominants; and 20th century techniques such as: Impressionism, tone rows, set theory, pandiatonicism and polytonalism, meter and rhythm. This course also applies and develops the rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic materials of Music Theory and Musicianship III through ear training, sight singing, analysis, and dictation. This course is team­taught with Dr. Anderson. The candidate would be responsible for the aural skills portion of the course.


EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

POSITION DEFINITION:
Under the general supervision of the Division or Department Chair, the adjunct instructor will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned. Instructor may be assigned to the Monterey campus and/or Marina Education Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meet each scheduled class and teach or conduct learning exercises for the entire period.
Contact the appropriate division chair or administrator in advance to make arrangements for unavoidable absences.
Provide each student at the beginning of the course with written information about the course, to include a full description of the grading system and how the student will be evaluated.
Accurately keep required class records on attendance, withdrawal and grading.
Submit when due, all necessary reports such as attendance and grade reports, roll books, and class information sheets, and certify as to their accuracy.
Comply with all institutional policies and procedures.
Give careful attention to all bulletins, memorandums and emails from administrative offices.
Check faculty mailbox and MPC email frequently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in music OR
Bachelor's degree in music AND master's degree in humanities OR
The equivalent. Applicant must submit equivalency form.

AND

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Teaching assignments are part­time and temporary in nature. Assignments are subject to Governing Board approval, adequate enrollment size, and assignment to a contract instructor.

Hourly Rate: $48.16 ­ $58.80 (per classroom teaching hour) based on education.
