Sport Psychologist (2 positions- Limited Terms)


The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Sport Psychologist (2 positions- Limited Terms).

The Sport Psychologist is a member of the University Counseling Center (UCC) staff who is embedded within the Athletic Department, and who has specialized knowledge of and training in the culture of sport. The Sport Psychologist is responsible for providing counseling and sport psychology services within Athletics in a collaborative effort to enhance the personal, social, emotional, academic, and athletic growth and performance of the University of Notre Dame varsity student-athletes. The Sport Psychologist, as a member of the UCC staff, will also be available to provide some clinical services to non-student-athletes, attend UCC staff meetings, and participate in other UCC professional development activities, as well as work with UCC fellow psychologists, athletic trainers, team physicians, sports dieticians, strength and conditioning coaches, and other support staff for integrated service provision.

Responsibilities include: 1) providing individual and group counseling primarily for and preferentially to student-athletes including psychological assessment, treatment, and crisis management, 2) consulting, training, and offering educational outreach to student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff on issues impacting student-athletes , i.e., body image and disordered eating, injury, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, 3) Offering both individual and team sport psychology strategies related to sport or position-specific skills needed for optimal performance, 4) contributing to delivery of key personal development topics such as transitioning in and out of the university, athlete identity, interpersonal relationships, cultivating resilience and grit, healthy striving and stress management, 5) continuing the development and implementation of goals, philosophies, policies, and procedures for meeting the psychological needs of student-athletes, 6) coordinating care and communication between the Athletic Department and University service providers and administration as needed, 7) serving as a clearinghouse for external sport psychology service provision, and 8) may involve providing supervision and training in the area of sport psychology to post-doctoral and doctoral psychology interns in an APA accredited doctoral internship program.

Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed or license- eligible as a health service provider in the state of Indiana within 18 months of hire; Experience working in an elite and/or intercollegiate athletics setting; Experience in a University Counseling Center; Clinical skills in individual and group counseling; Ability to conduct initial and ongoing psychological assessment; Skill in managing crisis situations; Skill in providing outreach and consultation; Ability to provide supervision to psychologists-in-training; Computer technology skills in electronic record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Consultant by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP)
