Position Summary:
As a part of Student Engagement and Wellness at Metropolitan State University of Denver, the Dean of Students Office is committed to student safety and well-being by fostering a university community of integrity and respect. The scope of the office includes the facilitation of the student conduct process, student conflict resolution services, coordination of the CARE Team (behavioral intervention team), management of Title IX cases with student respondents, and generalized support and referrals for students in crisis and management of the Roadrunner Food Pantry. The CARE Case Manager is an integral part of the Dean of Students Office team. Please note: This position is non-clinical, but does preliminary assessments for immediate mental health and crisis intervention needs (ie: suicidality).
This position coordinates applicable case management responses for students who experience challenges that may interfere with their academic pursuits and/or may pose a threat to the health and safety of themselves, others, or place. This position supports the work of the University's behavioral intervention team for students (CARE Team). While maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, the Case Manager also works directly with students to manage support and/or safety related interventions referred to the CARE Team and/or who are alleged to have violated the Student Code of Conduct. The CARE Case Manager is responsible for ensuring thorough documentation/files for activities and cases. The CARE Case Manager actively collaborates and consults with faculty, Deans, advisors, health care providers on campus and in the community, law enforcement, parents, and colleagues across the institution to develop action plans related to student and community safety, and to ensure that plans are executed as written. This position reports to the Director for Behavioral Intervention & Student Conduct and supports the recommendations of the CARE Team. This position collaborates with other professional staff in the Dean of Students Office on a daily basis to provide timely case management for a variety of complex student needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:
As a member of the Dean of Students Office Team, this position has the following responsibilities:
80% Student Case Management and referrals coordination for the Dean of Students Office/CARE Team
Serve as a point of contact for faculty, staff, and community members to express concerns regarding students who exhibit symptoms associated with distress. Actively work to develop rapport across the institution with faculty, staff, and students to increase visibility of Office programs designed to assist and intervene when students are in need of support for complex issues. Outreach to students in distress as identified through CARE reports or who call or visit the Office, providing appropriate and timely interventions. Respond to critical incidents on campus as needed.
Make independent decisions, exercising sound professional judgment, in responding to student crises and/or in developing student case management plans. Manage a revolving student case load, assigned through the CARE Team, student conduct process, and/or at the request of the Director for Behavioral Intervention & Student Conduct, Associate Dean for Student Engagement & Wellness or the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement & Wellness/Dean of Students. Implement non-clinical interventions to provide care, support and resources for students who have challenges with their health/wellness, academics, behavior, safety or their general welfare, or who otherwise may be at risk.
Liaise with health care providers on campus and in the community, law enforcement, parents, and colleagues across the institution to establish and ensure compliance with student action plans.
In coordination with the Health and/or Counseling Centers, provide post-hospitalization support to students returning from a mental/behavioral health setting and transitioning back to the University environment. Assess for immediate mental health and crisis intervention needs (ie: suicidality).
Assist students in navigating a variety of academic and financial appeals at the University.
Support the Dean of Students Office staff with food, housing, and other basic needs referrals for students. Assist with referrals to/from the emergency grant, managed by the Associate Dean for Student Engagement & Wellness. This position may occasionally be asked to assist with food procurement, fundraising efforts, assessment projects, and events for the Roadrunner Food Pantry.
Manage highly sensitive case information and help manage workflow and urgency of cases, as needed. Adhere to and execute CARE Team and student conduct protocols, including the maintenance of accurate electronic case management records. Assist with conducting audits of case management records to ensure compliance with stated protocols. Maintains a system of follow up for students who are referred to campus or community resources, including providing services to encourage compliance with recommendations and care plans.
May serve on committees and assist with initiatives outside of the Dean of Students Office.
20% Dean of Students Office Support & Outreach
Participate in communication/outreach efforts on behalf of the Dean of Students Office, including presentations to faculty, staff, and students about the CARE Team, student conduct, and related processes.
Develop and maintain relationships with community and campus entities to stay updated on services that may be of value to MSU Denver students and/or who refer students to the Dean of Students Office programs. Serve on committees and attend meetings in place of Director of Behavioral Intervention & Student Conduct as needed.
Carry out special projects on behalf of the CARE Team and/or the Dean of Students Office that are designed to enhance campus and student safety.
Assist with the assessment of student learning and/or the efficacy of Dean of Students Office programs.
May provide direct or indirect supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications:
Completed Masters degree in social work, psychology, student affairs, criminal justice, or a related field
One year of experience working with non-clinical case management, advising, or otherwise coordinating individual services for students and/or clients
Experience conducting record keeping and maintaining documentation in compliance with rules of confidentiality
Experience collaborating and working on teams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional work experience in higher education
Experience working with student information databases/systems and familiarity with FERPA privacy regulations
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
Experience responding to crisis situations
Awareness of student retention theories, practices, and issues affecting diverse college student populations
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations such as low-income, people of color, military veterans, DACA/Dreamers, and first generation college students
Experience making professional presentations to groups of up to 50 people
Experience researching and writing grant or other funding proposals
