Job Description

*** This recruitment is open only to current UNR Classified employees with at least six months of continuous work experience no other applications will be accepted.The University of Nevada, Reno is conducting a recruitment for a Maintenance Repair Worker 4 in the Parking and Transportation Department. This position is responsible for maintaining parking spaces in existing parking structures and surface lots.

Duties include (but are not limited to):
  • Maintain and conduct safety and maintenance inspections of parking complexes;
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance projects not to inconvenience or obstruct parking patrons;
  • Perform work in a safe and professional manner complying with state and local rules and regulations;
  • Inspect all areas for safety concerns such as pot holes, shrubbery obstructing traffic signs, deteriorating bumper blocks, condition of stripping and signage;
  • Maintain all gate arms, pay and display machines, change machines, and meters; perform mechanical repairs on all permit dispensers and machines;
  • Install and replace signage, bumper blocks and bicycle racks; responsible for the placement of signage for closures, construction activity and special events;
  • Identify and check equipment for proper maintenance and upkeep;
  • Order replacement equipment;
  • Provide training to new, temporary or current staff; provide training on repairing parking equipment and tools;
  • Plan, organize and prioritize workload and job assignments consistent with changing zones, schedules, and instructions;
  • Maintain open lines of communication by keeping others involved and informed;
  • Demonstrate excellent listening skills;
  • Maintain a calm demeanor while performing job duties and assisting the public; respond to difficult situations with patience, professionalism, and a courteous approach;
  • Provide accurate information to customers;
  • Provide vehicle assistance when directed by Parking Services office or the public;
  • Properly use and maintain tools and equipment; properly use personal protective equipment; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • This position requires three (3) years of experience performing semi-skilled work in the relevant building and/or mechanical trades; OR
  • One (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Repair Worker 3 in Nevada State Service; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.


Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Physical Demands

This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

This job requires working with and around hazardous building materials; frequent lifting, digging, painting, shoveling, moving and installing objects; and exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside.

This position requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate through speech.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

This position is part of the Facilities Services Essential Personnel and may be required to work evenings, weekends, and during campus closures or delays to maintain campus operations.

Compensation Grade

Grade 28

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
