Job Summary

Provide academic advising and coordination of student services to holistically support the personal, educational, and professional development of undergraduate students in iSchool undergraduate degree programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Academic Advising

  • Provide timely and accurate academic advising and support to a diverse group of undergraduate students pursing the BS/IS and BS/IS+DS curriculums or courses.

  • Advise students holistically to support their personal, educational, and professional development, providing support on topics such as course selection, policies and procedures, academic progress, intercollegiate (ICT) transfer, dual-degree, course overloads and underloads, late course drops, dual degree registration, career preparation, and other processes related to academic advising.

  • Make good judgments based on individual circumstances while maintaining equity, objectivity, and consistency, working within the framework of policy guidelines, referring to senior personnel or other relevant offices on campus when necessary.

  • Make referrals to appropriate campus and academic support and resources, extracurricular activities, workshops and trainings, and other services within and outside the School based on the unique interests and needs of each student.

  • Maintain schedule of academic advising appointments and express advising hours in coordination with the office, adapting during high-peak times to meet the high student demand.

  • Develop and support itiatives and resources for undergraduate students focused on student success and retention, such as tutoring and academic support, probation monitoring, engagement, workshops, personal and professional skill development, and others enriching the student experience and supporting curricular and cocurricular progression.

  • Monitor student records and reports to track student academic progress for enrollment, retention, and graduation purposes.


Student Engagement, Support, and Outreach

  • Coordinate and support programming and services for undergraduates, such as honors, research, student groups, student ambassadors, and other activities that enrich the student experience and support curricular and cocurricular progression.

  • Participate and support student recruitment and admissions efforts, specifically on-campus for current students interested in intercollegiate transfer (ICT).

  • Assist with the iSchool First Year Experience efforts, including the new student welcome events and teaching of the iSchool Experience course (IS 100).

  • Provide assistance at iSchool events supporting all programs.


Administration

  • Work as part of the student affairs team to make decisions based on policies, procedures, and individual student circumstances.

  • Collaborate with the undergraduate enrollment team on evaluating student credentials to determine eligibility for admission to the BS/IS program.

  • Assist with reporting and monitoring of student academic progress for enrollment, retention, and graduation purposes.

  • Review, monitor, and maintain accurate student records based on academic performance and student progress towards degree requirements, and assist with degree certification.

  • Assess and process student forms, including overloads/underloads, minor declaration/modification, intrecurricular transfers (ICTs), dual-degree, grade replacement, student registration changes, honors credit learning agreement processing, re-entry, transfer and study abroad courses, and course substitutions.

  • Participate in staff, committee, and other meetings as assigned.


Physical demands: Typical office environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in higher education working with students within the areas of academic advising, student records, admissions, and/or career services.

  • Demonstrated successful experience working in, and contributing to, a collaborative work environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.

  • Degree in higher education, student development, or a related field.

  • Experience with student records, including Ugradrecs (or advising records system), Banner Student Information System, UI Integrate System, as well as the Degree Audit Reporting System (U.Achieve).


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, as well as analytical and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of the University of Illinois student policies and procedures preferred.


Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 10/17/2022. Salary is commensurate with experience.
