Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno Human Resources Department is recruiting for a Classification Analyst or a Classification and Compensation Analyst. This position reports to the Manager, Classification and Compensation.

Classification Analyst

The Classification Analyst conducts analysis and evaluation of jobs to correctly place positions in the appropriate grade compensation grade. The Analyst engages in various methodologies to gather information, conduct analysis, and apply classification models to determine placement of positions on the appropriate salary schedule. The incumbent is knowledgeable of higher education operations and the responsibilities and duties of various jobs. The Analyst provides input regarding the functions and responsibilities of positions, educates departments on classification and potential options, and suggests structure or reorganization of duties within the department.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and classifications of faculty and classified positions
  • Utilize a variety of methodologies to gather information such as: desk audits, in-depth interviews, position comparisons, and the application of various classification models
  • Author job descriptions and decision determinations in accordance with standard protocol; prepare essential functions
  • Participate in organizational reviews of all positions assigned to a department to evaluate and determine structure, workload distribution, efficiencies, proper classification and job placement, etc.
  • Participate in class specification maintenance and organizational reviews
  • Provide consultation to constituents regarding classified and faculty positions on policies, rules, and regulations for both employee types
  • Participate in various activities (committees, cross-training, observations) to enhance knowledge of operating departments


Classification and Compensation Analyst

The Classification and Compensation Analyst maintains classification duties consistent with the Analyst Classification for increasingly complicated positions and organizational studies. Additionally, the position performs compensation related analysis for existing administrative faculty and classified employees and potential hires.

In addition to the above, duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform and present equity studies/salary reviews for classified and administrative faculty incumbents and administrative faculty new hires
  • Provide data to managers for compensation decisions
  • Evaluate and recommend approval or disapproval of temporary salary adjustments for classified and faculty
  • Evaluate and recommend approval or disapproval of faculty promotions within lines of progression or to an existing job description.
  • Provide consultation to constituents regarding classified and faculty positions on policies, rules, and regulations for both employee types
  • Participate in various activities (committees, cross-training, observations) to enhance knowledge of operating departments


Required Qualifications

Classification Analyst

High School Graduation and four years of related work experience; OR an Associate's Degree and three years of related work experience; OR a Bachelor's Degree and two years of related work experience; OR a Master's Degree and one year of related work experience.

Related Experience: human resources, operations or business analysis, interpretation and application of business rules

Classification and Compensation Analyst

High School Graduation and four years of related work experience; OR an Associate's Degree and three years of related work experience; OR a Bachelor's Degree and two years of related work experience; OR a Master's Degree and one year of related work experience.

Related Experience: human resources to include position classification and/or compensation analysis.

Compensation Grade

Classification Analyst

The typical salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000.

Classification and Compensation Analyst

The typical salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000.

Salary is based on related education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
