DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Dean for Student Service is a vital member of the Graduate School of Social Service leadership team. They are responsible for the development and implementation of all student-related services policies, procedures, requirements, and activities. The Assistant Dean for Student Service directs and oversees all sta assigned to the Student Services across all campuses. GSS Student Services provides support to students from admission to graduation including registration, orientation, academic advisement, monitoring of academic progress, professional development opportunities, career services, and professional social work licensure. The GSS Assistant Dean for Student Service works closely with all GSS departments and faculty, and serves as the primary liaison to relevant units of the University.


  • Provide leadership for all operations and staff of GSS Student Services.

  • Collaborate with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in developing all academic course offerings and schedules.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the student registration systems and processes.

  • Develop and implement student orientations.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a school-wide system for student academic advising.

  • Oversee the monitoring and recording of all student grades and interventions associated with academic progress.

  • Oversee all aspects of DegreeWorks; including the management of degree audits.

  • Assist students with problem resolution and provide leadership to the student Administrative Review and Committee for Academic Progress processes.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for increasing student academic success and improving the student experience.

  • Serve as a member of the GSS Curriculum Committee.

  • Other duties as necessary.

  • Possess a Masters in Social Work. Doctorate preferred.

  • A minimum of 5 years of student service and administrative experience including staff management and supervision.

  • Technical prociency in current software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google spreadsheets.

  • Leadership abilities, extremely detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Integrity, sound judgment, and ethical decision-making.

  • Exceptional professional written and oral communication skills.

  • Service-oriented with exceptional interpersonal and relational skills.

  • Function independently as well as part of a team operating a complex environment.

  • Resilience, able to adapt to changes in priorities, unexpected events, or unanticipated demands.
