POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director of Student Accounts
DEPARTMENT: Bursar's Office
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Bursar
LOCATION: Main Campus
RATE OF PAY: $45,596 - $56,870 annual salary depending on experience
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides direct support to the Bursar in handling administrative and accounting duties related to all aspects of student account billing and activity within the Bursar's office.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the transactional processing and reconciliation functions of the Bursar's office, including billing, collections, student tax reporting, cashiering, student refunding, Title IV compliance (e.g., R2T4), audit activities and appropriate forms and procedures
Assist with development and implementation of workflow improvements to increase control and efficiencies that improve reporting to Finance and other departments as needed
Assist with reconciliation of Bursar's office records with other departments' records to ensure complete agreement of billing, receipts, disbursements and outstanding accounts receivable records
In the absence of the Bursar, acts on behalf of the Bursar
Must be able to fulfill all functional duties of the Bursar
Assist with and support all areas of student communications, including responding to phone calls and emails, as well as updating relevant website information and developing other communications to students as necessary
Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field
Minimum 2 years' related experience
Must be bondable
Prior experience supervising non-exempt staff
Knowledge of basic accounting principles, theory and practice
Intermediate computer skills required, including proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing and cash receipting/accounting applications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of business English and Math
Ability to apply accounting principles to routine transactions
Effective supervisory skills
Ability to delegate tasks and manage the workflow of the department
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to balance competing priorities and juggle multiple assignments simultaneously
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with a diverse group of individuals, both internal and external
ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical climate-controlled office environment; no exposure to loud noises, extreme temperature fluctuations or unnecessary interruptions. May require occasional travel throughout the service area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting for extended periods of time but allows for standing and walking around some of the time. Occasional lifting of objects up to ten pounds. Requires extended communication via telephone, ongoing use of keyboard and mouse and focusing on computer screen for extended periods of time.
