The School of Information Studies (SIS) in the College of Human Sciences & Education at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates with a demonstrated potential for research and teaching in the area of public libraries. Specifically, we seek a colleague whose research and teaching connects public libraries to one or more of the following areas, which align with LSU's research priorities:

  • Agriculture (for example, Food Security/Food Justice, Library Support of Agricultural Programs/Communities)

  • Biomedicine (for example, Consumer Health Librarianship, Community Health Information Services and Outreach)

  • Coast (for example, Public Library Responses to Weather Events, Community Support)

  • Defense (for example, Information/Data Security and Privacy, Information Governance)

  • Energy (for example, Sustainable Practices for Cultural Heritage Institutions)




This is a nine-month academic appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2024. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.



Responsibilities: Engage in scholarly research in the appropriate area leading to publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Seek appropriate grant funding for such research. Teach core courses for the MLIS and electives related to public libraries. Advise and mentor students. Actively assist with student recruitment. Participate in service activities pertaining to the mission of the School, the College, and the University.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in LIS or related field and an MLIS or equivalent.Applicants should have completed their doctorate by August 2024.Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and publication. Demonstrated proficiency in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses.



Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success in acquiring research grants. Demonstrated proficiency in teaching asynchronous online courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
