Job Summary:
Lamar University's College of Business (CoB) seeks a Cardinal Coach to lead the college's undergraduate student retention efforts. Working with CoB departments and the University Advising Center (UAC), the Coach will identify students at risk of voluntary or involuntary withdrawal from the university and develop individualized plans to help these students achieve success in their field of study. The Coach will establish the CoB student retention office, manage all CoB student retention efforts, conduct related research and data analysis, and liaison with CoB departments, the UAC, and the University's student retention office. The Coach will create a supportive and inviting atmosphere that does not penalize students in need of help and support.

Job Description Responsibilities include:
  • Establish CoB student retention office and processes
  • Co-Chair CoB Retention Committee
  • Identify students at risk of withdrawal from the University
  • Develop and implement personalized plans to ensure students' success
  • Coordinate with CoB UAC advisors, CoB Departments, and University student retention office
  • Conduct research on causes of CoB retention issues
  • Develop common dimensions along which to counsel students
  • Develop at risk faculty progress reports for CoB students
  • Develop and host undergraduate student success seminars with small groups of students
  • Manage and analyze CoB student retention data using the University's Student Success Collaborative Campus database and similar programs
  • Oversee remodeling of Cardinal Coach/tutoring office space and student lounge space in Galloway building
  • Communicate with University First-Year Experience and Cardinal Communities programs
  • Develop and oversee CoB peer tutoring program
  • Create other peer support opportunities for CoB students
  • Facilitate resources to assist students on campus, online, and in the Southeast Texas community
  • New responsibilities to follow initial CoB student retention office implementation period

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Job Specifications Qualifications:
    Bachelors degree required (social sciences, psychology, education degrees preferred)
    Two (2) years of higher education counseling/advising experience
    Desire to help students
    Data management and analysis skills
    Proficiency in basic productivity software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database software
    Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
    Ability to prepare written reports on student success
    Graduate degree a plus
    Licensed Professional Counselor or similar certification(s) a plus
