About the Position:
The Capital Programs and Facilities Management Department is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Carpenter. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Projects Supervisor, the Carpenter performs a full range of skilled journey-level carpentry and related work. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Provides instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semiskilled assistants. Installs, builds and repairs internal and external structures including but not limited to dry wall, ceiling and floor tiles, roofs, floors door and window frames, and modular furniture. The Carpenter installs, builds and repairs Works from blueprints, specifications, drawings and instructions to build, remodel, maintain and repair various types of facilities, buildings, offices, classrooms, sheds and other structures. Creates rough sketches of repair work and advises in the selection and storage of building materials. Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Estimates costs, time and materials for carpentry projects. Consults and works with other trades workers. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
A combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrating the achievement of journey level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program.

Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry. Thorough knowledge of the various types and grades of lumber, as well as hand and power carpentry tools. Thorough knowledge of applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and California State Building Codes. Ability to build, install, and repair structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings and cabinetry. Ability to operate and maintain hand and power carpentry tools. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to recognize and select appropriate lumber types and grades, make rough sketches, and estimate the cost, time, and materials of carpentry projects. Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations required for the position.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience using a computerized facilities management program. Experience as a carpenter in a large complex facility.

License/ Certification
Valid California driver's license with a sound driving record, as well as Asbestos certification.

Special Working Conditions
Works on uneven surfaces, in and around construction sites, and on roofs and other elevated surfaces. Works with hazard containing materials, such as asbestos and lead. May be required to work overtime or an alternate schedule in order to complete assignments. Will carry master keys.
