The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Clark County, is recruiting for a full-time Community Based Instructor 3 position for the Horticulture department Youth Horticulture Education Program, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. This position does not offer layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This position is to teach soil and soilless gardening techniques to middle and high school aged youth in a variety of educational settings including maximum security juvenile residential detention facilities. In addition, this job will facilitate professional development workshops and utilize online conference platforms to teach as needed, assist with maintenance of outdoor and hydroponic gardens, mapping of select curriculum to the Nevada Academic Content Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. This job will assist with research data collection as key personnel.
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
A valid Class C driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Must pass a successful criminal background check, to include fingerprinting.
Candidates with experience teaching at-risk-youth of various ages and grade levels, a proven record of excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and effectively manage time, an ability to clearly and effectively convey information, and collaborate with others are encouraged to apply.
The typical work schedule is variable to include weekdays with occasional nights and weekends; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. Travel within assigned locations in Clark County, Nevada.
