Job Description:

Madison College is excited to introduce a Digital Repository Project Leader in our School of Arts and Sciences. We are seeking a candidate with experience leading the design and development of a technical infrastructure to support the management, preservation and appropriate access to digital assets created or managed by the Antarctic Meteorological Research and Data Center (AMRDC). This is a full-time, exempt, 52 weeks per year position. Monday - Friday. The individual hired in this position should be prepared to start January 4, 2021. Initially, this will be a 100% remote position due to COVID-19 but when the college opens back up the individual in this position may be required to be on site at the Madison College Truax campus.

SUMMARY:

The Digital Repository Project Leader will work closely with digital asset and metadata managers and other grant collaborators to develop and implement repository solutions.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, code, integrate, test, document, implement, and maintain services and applications that support digital object ingest, preservation, search, discovery, distribution and presentation.
  • Work closely with creators and managers of content and metadata to understand their needs and develop mechanisms for integrating assets into the repository.
  • Manage (servers interfacing and maintenance 24/7) repository services projects as assigned.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate technology infrastructure to support AMRDC repository services.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement procedures to ensure the security and integrity of repository contents.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement methods for integrating repository services with other platforms.
  • Engage in professional development and pursue increased subject knowledge. Actively participate in inter-institutional repository development communities, sharing experience, code, and best practices. Maintain knowledge and awareness of technology trends and evaluate their impact on applications used in the AMRDC.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values. Complies with college policies, directives, and work rules. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Skills with repository systems (Samvera, DSpace) and related toolkits along with systems such as Ruby on Rails. Preferred understanding of McIDAS, ADDE, THREDDS, LDM, and/or other weather serving software systems along with Web Map Service (WMS) and MinIO.
  • Understanding of issues related to scholarly publication, intellectual property, open access, and digital preservation.
  • Familiarity with digital library technologies and standards, including digital object metadata and interchange standards, such as Dublin Core, MARC, METS, MODS, OAI-PMH, OAI-ORE, and SWORD; familiarity with Shibboleth, Grouper, and other federated identity management and access standards.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in computer science or related field; or an equivalent combination AND Three (3) years of professional experience developing and implementing technology projects in a collaborative, team-based, goal-oriented environment.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in computer science or related field; or an equivalent combination.
  • Prior experience working in higher education generally including an academic research library.
