About the Position:
The Diversity Initiatives and Resource Center aims to create learning environments and opportunities that supports the University mission by preparing students to become socially conscious leaders in a global society. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director, Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers. The ideal candidate in this role should a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Director provides overall leadership and administration for the office of Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers (DIRC), including staff supervision, budget management, and the development and assessment of co-curricular programs and services designed to advance student success. Reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, responsible for providing leadership and administration of four cultural centers (African American, Asian Pacific American, Chicana/o, the Titan Dreamers Resource Center and LGBTQ) and coordinates programs focused on diversity and inclusion. The Director has decision making authority in these areas and is required to use sound, independent judgment and political acumen in both routine and complex situations. Works collaboratively with a wide variety of administrative and academic departments across the university community to promote programs which complement the students' academic experience and engagement in high impact practices.

In managing the Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers budget, the Director will make internal allocations and requests for funding as necessary and is responsible for annual budget development and review. Creates and maintains strong partnerships with the Dean of Students, Director of Student Life and Leadership and the Director of the WoMen's Center to produce and cultivate high impact co-curricular environments that promote student success. Ensures the coordination, continuity and support of existing programs such as heritage month events, cultural recognition celebrations, and diversity workshops. Guides new initiatives such as the establishment of a bias incident response team, encourage and advance faculty/student research opportunities, and serves as a consultant to various campus stakeholders. Builds collaborative relationships with faculty, campus units, and the culturally-based faculty and staff associations to ensure programs strongly support student learning, the university's mission, and strategic plan. Responsible for overseeing communication, marketing and promotional efforts that highlight all major program areas.
Represents the Office of Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers within the Student Engagement cluster, within the Division of Student Affairs and across campus. Serves on the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs' Management and Leadership Teams. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Masters degree from an accredited four year-college or university in an area related to Student Affairs, Student Development, and Educational Leadership. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in related areas. Experience in staff supervision and budget management. Demonstrates proficiency in organization and leadership development. Demonstrates skills in decision making, facilitation, mediation, collaboration, project management and fiscal planning. Demonstrates leadership skills to recruit and develop staff, creates long range plans, coordinates new and existing programs, and collaborates with university and community constituents.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Special Working Conditions:
The scope of responsibilities for this position includes the making or participating in the making of decisions that may have a material financial benefit on the incumbent. Therefore, you will be required to file an initial Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests within thirty (30) days from date of hire and on an annual basis; and complete the CSU sponsored ethics on-line training within thirty (30) days of appointment, and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment.
