Anticipated Hiring Salary: $4,304 per month

Note: This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

Overview:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruitment, the recruitment counselor's primary responsibility is to provide leadership in the areas of counseling, pre-admission advising, follow-up, coordination of various recruitment events, delivery of presentations as well as other recruitment activities targeted at high school and community college students in order to meet the FTE goals of the university. The recruitment counselor focuses on various university recruitment objectives and targeted special populations. The recruitment counselor oversees, coordinates recruitment activities, provides training for ambassadors and maintains a positive relationship with educational personnel, school districts, community colleges and community organizations.

Position Summary:

Major duties include:

  • Responsible for the selection process and hiring of ambassadors
  • Oversee high school ambassadors, provide training, ensure their placement at school sites, provide guidance for their work and monitor activities
  • Extensive travel and work occasional evenings and weekends to represent the university at various local and state recruitment events such as college nights, transfer days, career fairs, veteran's fairs and other community events
  • Plan, coordinate and execute various events, campus tours and workshops for students and parents
    • Workshops include admission information, admission application, EOP, scholarship and financial aid, Early Start Program and other related topics
  • Provide pre-admission advising and counseling, review transcripts and assist students through the admission process
  • Advise prospective students, parents and counselors on admission procedures, college entrance and placement exams, financial aid and scholarship
  • Provide various activity reports to the Assistant Director and Director
  • Assist with the transition of students to the university by collaborating with other departments such as University Advising Center, Admissions, EOP, Financial Aid, Scholarships, Fresno State Student Housing, Dream Success Center, and Dog Days to ensure applications are complete
  • Plan, coordinate and execute follow-up strategies for the matriculation of applicants and assist them at various stages of the admission process
  • Use technology such as Enrollment Management Platform (CRM), Tableau dashboards, Zoom and other technologies to recruit, track recruitment activities and disseminate information
  • Assess ambassadors and ambassador programs

Secondary duties:

  • Keep up-to-date regarding policies and procedures related to admissions, academic programs, general education and related university information
  • Stay in communication with prospective applicants and high school and community college personnel
  • Assist with other various office programs and events as approved by the Assistant Director or Director
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of a college admissions or advising department
  • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management
  • General knowledge of research and interview techniques
  • General knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior
  • Ability to:
    • Work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends, and travel extensively
    • Interpret and apply program rules and regulations
    • Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements
    • Obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews
    • Reason logically
    • Collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data
    • Advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required
    • Recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts
    • Rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of CSU Fresno
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations

Education and Experience:

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field
    • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field
    • A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience

Specialized Skills:

  • Possession of a valid, current Class "C" California driver's license and a good driving record
  • Skilled in computer software, word-processing, PowerPoint, Excel, databases, PeopleSoft (or equivalent), and social media
  • The ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends, and travel extensively

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with high school districts, high schools, high school personnel and community colleges
  • Experience overseeing and training student staff
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the California State University, Fresno's admissions requirements and process
