Position Description

Position:
Under the general supervision of the Academic Division Dean of Health Sciences, works collaboratively with the Respiratory Therapist Program Director and other faculty and staff in the Health Sciences Division. The Respiratory Therapist Instructor/Clinical Education Director is responsible for theory and clinical instruction, including student evaluation, and arranging, evaluating, and overseeing all clinical education experiences. This includes organizing adjunct faculty and student clinical assignments, and providing liaison with the division office. Participation as a full-time faculty member in department, division and campus-wide activities are required. Night and weekend work may be required; work assignment includes all District campuses and sites; location assignments other than District campuses and sites may be required.



Desirable Qualifications:
Teaching experience in respiratory therapy at the post-secondary level.
Bachelors or Masters Degree.
Experience in using innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.
Experience in the use of computer technology as a teaching tool, including experience with course management systems (i.e. Blackboard, Canvas, etc.).
Experience in working with culturally diverse student populations (teaching or other situations in a leadership role).
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to work successfully in a team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide instruction in assigned courses in the Respiratory Therapy Program, and employ learner-centered instructional methods that emphasize group cooperation and collaboration and that reflect cultural sensitivity and interdisciplinary approaches to subject matter.
Teach respiratory therapy curriculum in accordance with post-secondary level established course outlines.
Develop and act as a Faculty Advisor for a campus wide Civic Engagement Club or Association.
Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and student learning outcomes and provide feedback to students in a timely manner.
Assist students with their assignments by holding required office hours and attend department/division meetings.
Develop and implement a variety of effective teaching and assessment methods including the use of computers and information technology to engage student interest and support for a variety of learning styles.
Develop effective online course materials, and build online learning communities that meet accessible online course requirements and Title 5 55211 Effective Contact Policy requirements.
Work collaboratively with the program director, advisory board, adjunct faculty, community and students to evaluate the program curriculum and implement necessary changes.
Provide academic advisement to students and serve as a role model through participation in professional organizations and demonstration of exceptional practice skills.
Develop on-line courses and increase skills in the use of educational technology to the benefit of the program.
Develop curriculum and contribute to the department program review processes.
Participate in the leadership of discipline specific learning communities.
Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (i.e., grades, syllabi, attendance reports).
Provide classroom and clinical instruction and student evaluation in a variety of settings. Demonstrates current clinical and theoretical knowledge required by a curriculum that is highly responsive to a rapidly changing and demanding job market.
Provide leadership for the clinical education component of the respiratory therapist program. This includes organization, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the clinical component of the program.
Provide leadership in recruiting new clinical faculty and preceptors. Maintain current clinical contracts and pursue new clinical opportunities.
Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of curriculum as well as assess student-learning outcomes at the course and program levels.
Continue in related professional career development throughout employment and remain current in the field through course work, conferences, workshops and other appropriate means.
Carry out collegial responsibilities including, but not limited to, institutional committee assignments, student recruitment and retention, and participation in shared governance and campus life activities.
Perform duties described in Board policy, the Faculty Handbook, the United Faculty of Ohlone (faculty bargaining unit) contract, and as assigned at the Fremont and Newark campuses, online via the eCampus, and/or other designated locations.
Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues (within discipline and college-wide) on matters regarding course offerings, programs, and activities that would enhance the development of the department and college.
Conveying a compelling vision of the clinical education program future that motivates and inspires team members.
Promoting excellence and innovation in the capacity of a role model.
Planning and coordinating effective use of faculty, staff, facilities, and resources to achieve program goals.
Identifying, recruiting, hiring, orienting, and developing new and existing faculty members.
Demonstrate respect and promote diversity across a wide spectrum of individuals.
Resolving potentially confrontational situations in a calm and rational manner respectful of all parties.
Developing agendas and conducting productive meeting of faculty members and support staff.
Analyzing administrative problems and challenges and developing cost-effective solutions in a timely manner.
Advising prospective and current students with questions and possible educational difficulties.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Any Bachelors Degree and two years professional experience OR any Associate Degree and six years professional experience (may include adjunct appointment and/or clinical liaison/preceptor) AND
2. A current valid license to practice as a Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of California AND
3. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) AND
4. Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two (2) years must include clinical respiratory care AND
5. Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor AND
6. Commitment to community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of nontraditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.

Starting Salary Range:
$64,762 - $99,100 Annually
