Position Summary:
The Department of Secondary/K-12 Education and Educational Technology at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites for one, full-time tenure-track Secondary Education faculty member at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2019. This position requires teaching the equivalent of 12 semester hours of courses (day, evening and/or weekend classes) each semester with primary responsibility for teaching courses in the Secondary/K-12 education program, supervising student teachers, and advising Secondary Education/K-12 licensure students.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach 12 semester hours of day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Teaching load may include: foundations of education, multicultural education, classroom management, and pedagogy courses in the Secondary/K-12 Education teacher licensure program and possibly educational technology courses. The candidate must have a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and school personnel in supervision of clinical experiences and/or student teachers as well as advising secondary education licensure students. Other responsibilities include participation in professional development/scholarly activities, committee work and other service opportunities as required in the department evaluation guidelines. Furthermore, the candidate needs to have a desire to work with a diverse student body including, but not limited to, working adults and students of color to increase student retention and success.

Required Qualifications:
ABD in Curriculum and Instruction or education-related field within secondary education.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completed doctorate in curriculum and instruction or education-related field within secondary education. Three years or more of teaching in grades 6 through 12. Educational background/experience in educational/instructional technology. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate courses in multicultural education, pedagogy, classroom management, and foundations of education. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups including outreach to and retention of students of color. Demonstrated intellectual contributions in the fields of curriculum, instruction, teacher preparation, multi-cultural education, and/or other education-related fields.
