The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy at Augusta University, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA, invites applications for a Senior Research Scientist position (non-tenure track). The successful candidate will participate in projects related to intravital microscopy experiments, developing training modules for individual/small group training. Candidate must have the ability to construct appropriate stages, windows, rings, tissue stabilization measures to obtain high quality confocal and multi-photon movies in live mice (tissues include mouse cremaster muscle, mouse lung, and mouse liver). Candidate will be required to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each model, define training requirements for assisted and unassisted use. Candidate will use iLabs and establish cost rates in iLabs. This position will have .50 FTE in the Augusta University Imaging Core and .50 FTE in a research laboratory located in the Immunology Center of Georgia. Candidate will be required to use data collected from the Nikon multiphoton and confocal intravital microscope to generate high quality movies and figures for peer-reviewed publications.

Responsibilities

50% effort
Candidate must have the ability to construct appropriate stages, windows, rings, tissue stabilization measures to obtain high quality confocal and multi-photon movies in live mice (tissues include mouse cremaster muscle, mouse lung, and mouse. Candidate will be required to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each model, define training requirements for assisted and unassisted use. Candidate will use iLabs and establish cost rates in iLabs. This position will have .50 FTE in the Augusta University Imaging Core

Oversee, install, run and maintain the Nikon multiphoton and confocal intravital microscope for the Imaging Core. This includes constructing appropriate stages, windows, rings, tissue stabilization measures to obtain high quality confocal and multiphoton movies in live mice. Tissues include mouse cremaster muscle, mouse lung and mouse liver.

Have the ability to install an iLab cost center, set rates, and define the training requirements for assisted and unassisted use.

Develop the standard operating procedures for each model. Have the responsibility of ordering and maintaining a stock of consumables while folding the associated costs into the rates.

50% effort
0.50 FTE in a research laboratory located in the Immunology Center of Georgia. Candidate will be required to use data collected from the Nikon multiphoton and confocal intravital microscope to generate high quality movies and figures for peer-reviewed publications.

Run intravital microscopy experiments and train his postdocs and students.

Yearly have at least one peer-reviewed publication & train 2 postdoc or students with documented outcome proficiency.

Attend scientific meetings and workshops on microscopy to learn and implement new techniques with the goal of getting invited to Janelia Farms, HHMI.

Required Qualifications
Masters degree

Record of achievement in microscopy.

Preferred Qualifications
PHD

Five years of postdoctoral experience desired.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
