TRIO SSS Retention Academic Support Coordinator


Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking applications for a 10-month TRIO SSS Retention Academic Support Coordinator. The incumbent is primarily responsible for design and implementation of a successfulSSStutoring program, training peers' tutors, scheduling participants for tutoring, maintaining our on-line student tutoring services / hours database, providing comprehensive and culturally competent academic support services designed to promote academic success, career readiness and degree completion; providing intensive 1:1/small group retention advisement and coaching; develop and operationalize student academic success plan(s); document outcomes of the students' academic plans and administer students assessments.

TRIOStudent Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded grant program dedicated to helping 140 students each year. The grant serves low-income, first-generation students, and individuals with disabilities according to ratios and guidelines set by the federal government. The program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The goal ofTRIOSSSis to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants, facilitate their transfer from two-year to four-year colleges and foster an institutional climate supportive of their successes.

Primary responsibilities include:

Provide academic support to assist students in successfully reaching graduation by coordinating all aspects of the academic progress of participants tutoring services by analyzing data and progress.
Coordinate peer tutoring services and supplemental instructional support workshops to assist students with the expansion of critical thinking and comprehension skills.
Assist students with their development of study skills and learning styles.
Maintain accurate records for tutoring services and for payroll purposes.
Serve a caseload ofTRIOSSSparticipants. Meeting regularly with and advising individual students in theTRIOSSSprogram.
Assist in the development and implementation of new program initiatives that support student retention efforts.
Monitoring the academic success of students in theTRIOSSSprogram.
Supervising the work ofTRIOstudent peer tutors.
Collaborating with UC facultyTRIOmentors and staff to develop strategies and action. programs to assistTRIOSSSstudents with academic, financial, and/or social difficulties.
Assist in developing academic programs forTRIOSSSstudents.
Supporting the Director of the Office ofTRIOSSSas needed.
Helping to recruit and support alumni asTRIOmentors.
Attending programs and trips and events planned forTRIOstudents.
Supporting students in applying to graduate and professional degree programs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required.
Two years' experience required in higher education in one of the following areas preferred: Academic advising; academic coaching, counseling, academic support and/or tutoring services, career services or student affairs.
Knowledge of financial aid procedures preferred.
Evidence of two years' experience working with low-income, first-generation, or disabled students preferred.
Prior experience withTRIOprograms preferred.
