ALTERNATIVE MEDIA/ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (Instructional Support Assistant II)

Primary Duties:
Working under general supervision the Alternate Media/Assistive Technology Specialist is responsible for providing technical expertise and support for the coordination, acquisition, production and distribution of instructional materials in alternate formats, in furtherance of Accessibility Resource Center's mission to provide equal access to higher education for students with disabilities. The Alternate Media/Assistive Technology Specialist oversees the production of alternate media (E-text, Kurzweil, PDF, large print, Braille, audio files, etc.) enabling users with a print-related disability access to instructional/university materials. Additional responsibilities include, operation, training and maintenance of Assistive technology hardware and software in the ATC Lab and other accessible workstation locations, keeping workstations current, including but not limited to patches, updates, and current versions of software, cataloging materials and information and maintaining database of inventory. This position also provides lead work direction to students as well as alternate media orientation and training to students, staff, and faculty.

Required Education:

Equivalent to one year of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing or storing materials, supplies, and equipment.
OR
Equivalent to one year of experience in ordering, purchasing, accounting or in office work related to technical materials, supplies, or equipment or in an office which provided similar services to a technical function or unit may be substituted for six months of the experience.
OR
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline in the specialty area to which assigned.

Special Requirements:
  • The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time while using the computer, scanner, or other equipment. Requires the ability to coordinate the movement of electronic equipment, such as desktop computers, monitors, scanners, CCTVs, desks, etc., weighing up to 25 lbs. Ability to assemble hardware, adaptive equipment including accommodation tables is preferred. Must be able to travel across campus to other office buildings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Position involves frequent interaction with students, faculty and staff in a general office environment. The position may require occasional overnight travel for conference functions. Travel is via private vehicle, rental car, shuttle or plane.
