The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) invites nominations and applications for the Archstone Foundation Endowed Chair in Aging. The Archstone Foundation Endowed Chair is seen as an opportunity to grow and strengthen programs in relation to gerontology at CSULB. The CHHS has proudly held this prestigious Endowed Chair, funded through an endowment from the Archstone Foundation since 1985. We are seeking applications from visionary leaders in the field of aging with established academic records in external grants, peer-reviewed publications, interdisciplinary and translational research, and highly effective teaching. Additionally, we seek applicants who have a strong desire to facilitate interdisciplinary faculty efforts and cultivate community stakeholder support and partnership. This candidate will engage community partners in an aging education and research core within the college, and around innovative projects and programs, which will meet the needs of older people in Long Beach, while educating a workforce to care for them.

The Endowed Chair will report directly to the Dean of the CHHS. This faculty appointment will be assigned in consultation with the Dean, and department faculty, to any one of the 11 CHHS Departments/Schools which best complement the faculty member's academic and professional discipline.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in gerontology or other closely related field
A minimum of fifteen years in academia with demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and service, commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor
Successful record of external grant activity, peer reviewed publication, and effective teaching in relation to gerontology
Established record of gerontology-related community engagement and interdisciplinary collaborative research
Evidence of applied and translational research on older adult populations
Strong record of student and faculty mentorship
Deep desire to assist, support, and serve as a facilitator in the formation of collegewide interdisciplinary education and research core on aging
Leadership in institutional, community, and gerontological professional organizations
Demonstrated success and commitment to working successfully with diverse populations

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in developing interdisciplinary research and education initiatives
Experience in developing and fostering community stakeholder partnerships
Experience in managing a community advisory board
Experience in fundraising and cultivating donor support
Visionary leadership in gerontology education especially in relation to current and future career tracks
Knowledge of aging-related professional and/or academic credentials, program/degree accreditation, and/or specialty endorsements (e.g., AGHE Program of Merit)
Ability to serve as a gerontology liaison among CHHS, the University, the California State University system, and the community

DUTIES
Reimagine and redesign the Center for Successful Aging and serve as its Director
Work collaboratively with the Dean to develop and execute a Center for Successful Aging strategic plan that establishes formalized interdisciplinary education and research programs
Create and lead the formation of a community advisory board to support the Center's efforts
Support the gerontology program needs, including but not limited to student recruitment, innovative curriculum development, interdisciplinary education initiatives to ensure student success, and teaching as assigned in consultation with the Dean
Jointly develop innovative University and community collaborations that result in grant-funded programs and pilot projects to improve service to older adults in the communities we serve
Work with community members to establish successful internship opportunities that enable gerontology students to apply theory, explore and support direct service programs, and to participate in program development and research opportunities
Advise graduate students and serve on thesis and/or directed project committees
Obtain external funding to support the Center's activities and disseminate research findings in peer-reviewed outlets
Conduct research translation activities aimed at improving the lives of older people in the local communities we serve
Work collaboratively with the Dean and the Director of Development to create and execute a fundraising campaign
Actively represent the Endowed Chair and Center's interests in CHHS, and CSULB, on community committees
Provide leadership and service to gerontology-related professional organizations
Develop a nationally recognized and externally funded centers of excellence that enhance the social, emotional, mental and physical health of older people, and that serves diverse, urban, and aging communities
Develop and maintain a professional network with local and state programs and agencies related to aging
