Department Specific Needs:
This coordinator position requires collaboration and rotation with other faculty members from the Counseling and English disciplines.The Puente Counselor will attend the required Puente state training held from June 3-9, 2018 at UC Berkeley and attend most fall and spring training. The nature of coordinating the program with other faculty in Counseling and English, and the numerous special events and trips planned to promote student success and transfer requires occasional evening and weekend work.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Counsel and advise students with respect to career, academic and vocational goals. May teach classes in guidance, learning strategies, and education. May include evening assignments, recruitment, class preparation and instruction, high school liaison, student activities and curriculum development. Duties will include the coordination of the Puente Program, which may include occasional evening and weekends, excursions, college visits, and mandatory Puente trainings and events. May also include presentation of Student Success workshops, operating in an online counseling environment, and facilitation of student success programs.

The Puente Program is a state-wide academic, community leadership, and professional training program whose mission is to increase the number of educationally under-served students who succeed in community colleges and high schools, earn degrees, and return to the community as mentors and leaders.

EDUCATION:
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR the Equivalent.

(All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions).

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of the equivalent of one-year full time counseling experience at the collegiate level as well as the equivalent of one year of teaching experience, also at the collegiate level, are required. Knowledge and experience in teaching guidance courses is required. Experience with online counseling and counseling with special populations is desirable. Experience within a multicultural work environment is also desirable

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, which includes educational and career counseling to a diverse community college student population; providing support services to students at risk; development of student educational plans; assisting students with the transfer process; recruitment and outreach activities; instruction and class preparation; committee work; program and curriculum development, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
2. All faculty will participate in outcomes assessment work.
3. Other responsibilities may include developing career seminars and classes; transfer and study skills workshops; evaluating and recommending appropriate career instruments, including computer software; collaborative activities within department and other disciplines; developing a comprehensive career decision-making process for use with undecided students
4. Provide coordination and counseling for the Puente Program, including the planning and implementation of the Puente mentoring component, and other duties associated to ensure compliance with the state Puente program.
5. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
6. Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, Improvement of Instruction, and other professional matters are also expected of all department faculty.
7. Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintain broad knowledge of academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes.
7. Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, appropriate professional activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
