SUMMARY:
The Assistant Librarian - Research and Instruction Night, under direction, is responsible and hands-on management of library operations, access and reference services, and technical support, ensuring high quality customer services is provided to all library users during evenings/nights and weekends. Hours: Sunday - Thursday, 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.; hours vary during the summer semesters.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with a cross-departmental team to provide optimal research, access services, and e-resources technical support to the university community.
Opens and closes the library on designated evenings/nights and weekends. Supervises, provides training, and evaluation for evening/night and weekend personnel.
Provides research assistance through individual research consultations, as well as providing reference and directional assistance to library users, in-person, by telephone, and online reference methods (e.g. LibAnswers, Web Conferencing, etc.).
Provides library instruction, including one-to-one, classroom, and online formats. Collaborates in the design, teaching, and assessment of instructional materials, as well as the creation of online educational resources.
Creates and maintains online guides and other research tools (e.g. LibGuides, Web Tutorials, etc.).
Works with faculty in designated subject specialty area to provide library curricular, research, and instructional support in a variety of formats.
Maintains working knowledge of the library's collections, databases, policies, technology/software, and other resources. Contributes to the library's collection development efforts and assumes collection development responsibilities for assigned subject areas.
Investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves problems associated with the delivery of electronic resources and communicates issues regarding publicly accessible equipment to appropriate personnel. Actively monitors building activities and reports problems to Library Administration, Campus Safety/Facilities, and University Police.
Engages in the planning, promotion, and assessment of library services, resources, and activities and makes recommendations for improving the user experience.
Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: ALA-accredited MLS degree or international equivalent.
Experience: One (1) year of post-MLS experience in public services, user services, or e-resources in an academic library (reference, access services, circulation, e-resources, etc.). One (1) year of supervisory experience in an academic library.
Knowledge / Skills: Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and project management skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to adapt to a changing library environment. Ability to work an evening/nigh and weekend schedule that varies during the Fall/Spring and Summer semesters..
Licensing/Professional Certifications: None
Physical Requirements: Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
Other Requirements: Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) or more years of post-MLS experience in user services (research and instruction, access services, e-resources, etc.) and with related technologies in an academic library (Sierra, Alma, etc.).
Two (2) or more years of supervisory and customer service experience.
Demonstrated experience with providing research services in-person, online, classroom, and group settings.
Demonstrated experience with SpringShare platform (LibGuides, LibAnswers, video/video editing tools - Camtasia, Adobe Premier, etc.)
Experience troubleshooting user access problems.
