Overview
Employment Status: Benefited, temporary, "non-exempt" benefited position through June 30, 2022 (appointment may be renewed based upon continued funding, availability of work and satisfactory job performance).
Salary: $4,333.25 per month ($25.00 per hour)
Work schedule: To be determined, 40 hours per week; schedule may require working irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and time spent driving between facilities.
Position Overview: The Assistant to the Director of Intern Operations (ADIO) will act in a support role under the direction of the Director of Intern Operations (DIO) in the Parental Intervention Project (PIP) through the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department (SBCSD). PIP is a partnership between California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) and the SBCSD that provides evidence-based interventions for inmates to improve family relations, mitigate factors leading to self-destructive life patterns, reduce recidivism, and promote the overall healthy functioning of individuals involved with the criminal justice system. Graduate student interns from various university partners currently facilitate the evidence-based programming through classes, case management, clinical work, and other types of targeted interventions while meeting their practicum site requirements.
Typical Activities
Under the supervision of the DIO, the ADIO will:
- Provide complex and responsible administrative support to assist with the facilitation of various programs, services, and trainings throughout all locations and programs associated with PIP.
- Understand PIP program material to cover classes on an as-needed basis, including but not limited to absences by intern facilitators due to illness, personal reasons, and academic breaks such as winter, spring, and summer. Program materials include, but are not limited to: Trauma Recovery and Family Relations curriculum, Cognitive Skills and Anger Management curriculum, TALK procedures and protocol, PACC, TCP, and counseling/advocacy services, as well as curriculum and programs yet to be developed.
- Provide clinical services to justice-involved individuals in line with hour requirements toward licensure.
- Respond to phone calls and written correspondence on behalf of the DIO; attend meetings and conferences with the DIO or to represent the DIO and convey the DIO's perspectives, opinions, and findings if the DIO is otherwise engaged.
- Assist with the coordination and communication with various departments, educational institutions, staff, interns, and community partners.
- Type a variety of regular and confidential reports, correspondence, memoranda, and other documents; format, proofread, and prepare materials on a computer.
- Maintain a variety of complex files and records often involving confidential materials; maintain confidentiality of information including information regarding Board, District, personnel, interns, collective bargaining, or controversial matters.
- Compile information and data for reports and research to assist in the preparation of statistical and narrative reports; inspect documents, forms, records, and other materials for accuracy and completeness; process forms and documents according to established procedures.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in social work.
- Minimum 9 months of demonstrated professional experience working with incarcerated populations.
- Experience facilitating individual and group programming/clinical work within the county jail system.
- Actively pursuing clinical licensure in the state of California in accordance with the BBS.
- Knowledge of the scientific literature on mental health and attachment, and interpersonal attachment-based psychotherapy.
- A strong background in child development, parenting, and developmentally-appropriate, positive child guidance.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with law enforcement, executive leaders, university faculty, staff, students, and community members/organizations.
- Ability to work with a diverse population including communication with people from diverse cultures, ethnic backgrounds, socio-economic levels, and educational levels.
- Skilled in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Working knowledge of state and county policies related to incarceration.
- The ability to write clear and concise reports.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Ability to handle multiple work priorities, organize work projects, and complete them in a timely manner.
- Strong oral and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of operating standard office equipment and computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Access, Powerpoint, Excel, Word) and database management.
- Willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed.
- Willingness to travel based on program needs.
