COLLEGE MAJOR ADVISOR (Student Services Professional II)

Primary Duties:
Under general supervision of the Associate Dean for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences as well as the College Advising and Retention Specialist (SSP III), the College/Major Advisor performs moderately complex professional student services work. This position requires the application of both professional knowledge and judgment, as well as experience, to apply the principles, techniques and skills characteristic of student advising and retention services. Such services and activities include, but are not limited to, providing information and guidance to students; assisting students to think through problems and select suitable solutions and courses of action; evaluating student needs and authorizing services; coordinating and administering programs, events, and projects; facilitating student involvement in campus life; advocating the needs of individual students and groups of students to university administrators, faculty and staff; and providing support and assistance to students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions and challenges. Additionally, incumbent will assist the College Advising and Retention Specialist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of Chancellor's office initiatives; eliminate equity gaps and decrease time to degree, promote access, academic achievement, and graduation of enrolling undergraduate students.
