POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Academic Coaching Coordinator provides leadership for and coordinates the Academic Success Center's (ASC) Academic Coaching program and designs and delivers peer education training within the ASC & Writing Center and to campus partners by request. Primary responsibilities include the hiring, training, and supervision of coaches (undergraduate and occasionally graduate students), management of daily operations, design and delivery of peer education training, program assessment and strategic planning, and communication and collaboration with stakeholders throughout the OSU community.



55% -COORDINATION OF ACADEMIC COACHING PROGRAM

Recruit, train, and oversee Academic Coaches; develop curriculum for and deliver training for student staff; create content for and lead professional development meetings; conduct observations and debrief, monitors services delivery; assign and guide coach projects work and communication with students; provide regular, timely feedback on Academic Coach performance; coordinate the daily operations of the coaching program including scheduling staff, ensuring coverage for appointments, budgeting for the program and tracking student pay; and communicating with students, faculty, and staff.



25% -PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING & COLLABORATION

Collaborate with ASC colleagues on the design and delivery of trainings for peer educators within the ASC & Writing Center and assist in the development of the peer education training offerings provided by the ASC & Writing Center unit to other campus programs. Contribute to ASC workshop delivery and other by-request engagements or consultations with campus partners. Communicate with campus partners to establish relationships and build partnerships. Collaborate on other current ASC & Writing Center academic support projects and initiatives as necessary.



15% ASSESSMENT, REPORTING, & PLANNING

Design assessment and inquiry projects for the coaching program and peer educator training efforts aimed at program improvement; tell the story of the program and efforts through reports and documents; engage in strategic planning for the coaching program and contribute to strategic planning and communication efforts for the ASC & Writing Center



5% - EQUITY & INCLUSION

Expand and enhance equity and inclusion efforts in the Academic Success Center and the Writing Center.



MINIMUM/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or related field from an accredited institution

  • 1 year of experience with peer education programs, such as academic coaching, peer mentoring, or related position, that center the learner and facilitate their process

  • Experience providing training or professional development, or teaching using active learning strategies

  • Experience supervising and mentoring employees



  • Experience conducting assessment and using data for decision making and planning

  • Experience working with a diverse population, demonstrating an ability to adapt approach to individual needs

  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and manage multiple projects

  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master's degree in education, psychology, or related field (or relevant Masters-level coursework, certification, professional development and additional demonstrated experience in working with college-level students)

  • Experience working in a leadership position with college-level students

  • Experience designing and delivering trainings on topics of diversity, equity, belonging, and/or inclusion

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across units and programs



  • Knowledge of some of the common academic challenges experienced by college students and student-centered strategies for support

  • Knowledge of how to deliver programs that address barriers to success for minoritized student populations




This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months. 



DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: 

The Academic Success Center (ASC) at Oregon State University is a unit within the Office of the Dean of Students within the Division of Student Affairs. The ASC offers Supplemental Instruction (SI), Academic Coaching, workshops, online resources, coursework and other services and programs designed to support academic success for students across all colleges at OSU. The ASC collaborates with other campus units on student success projects including training for peer educator roles.
