Definition
Under general direction plans, prioritizes, implements, and administers/oversees the administration of District database systems and related products.

Examples of Duties/ Essential Job Functions
Performs duties related to the administration of District database management systems (DBMS) including design; development; implementation; maintenance; database storage management; user access and security; procedures; tools for access; backup/recovery procedures; and monitoring/tuning of the databases. Plan, develop, implement, and administer disaster recovery plans for the database environment. Participate in design decisions related to DBMS performance, sizing, and implementation. Analyze system failures and take appropriate action to bring systems back on-line. Lead complex DBMS migration efforts. Prepare and maintain documentation. Help analyze complex problems involving DBMS-reliant applications. Develop and maintain DBMS models, schemas, and sub-schemas. Collaborate with users to construct test procedures. Maintain District database-related policies and procedures. May serve in a project manager role. Perform other duties as required.

Employment Standards/ Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field.

Experience: Increasingly responsible experience with relational database products, developing DBMS models and schemas, systems analysis, and programming.

Certificate / License: A valid drivers license is required.

Knowledge and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of current enterprise-scale DBMS product administration and management; application server administration; project management; industry-standard operating systems; principles and techniques of complex computer programming and systems analysis; programming languages; complex networks and their relationship to DBMS's and application development; DBMS security administration. Demonstrated ability to manage system resources in a SQL environment; maintain data integrity of the database; prepare work plans and time lines for projects and proposed systems; analyze complex business processes and information technology systems, identify problems, and develop logical conclusions and effective solutions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; receive and follow instructions and appropriately interact with students, staff, faculty, and the public; and learn and apply District policies and procedures.
