Description:
The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for the Department Head position with the successful applicant starting on August 1, 2020.

Successful candidates must have the following requirements:
  • Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field;
  • Demonstrated strong peer-reviewed grant development experience, high quality research, and scholarship supported by federal, state, and/or industry funding;
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching;
  • Proven leadership experience and commitment to inclusion and diversity;
  • Demonstrated experience with ABET and regional accreditation; and
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    The Department of Electrical Engineering offers degrees at BS and MS levels, serves over 170 majors and graduates approximately 35 students per year. The department consists of eight full-time faculty members with expertise in cross-cutting disciplines of power systems, microelectronics, robotics and controls, space systems, internet-of-things, communications, sustainability and renewable energy. The faculty conduct research funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and various commercial industries.The college also offers a PhD degree in Computational Science (Computational Engineering concentration) with a focus in Electrical Engineering. The program and activities of the department—along with collaborations with the UTC Center of Excellence in Applied Computational Science and Engineering, the UTC Center for Urban Informatics and Progress, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Electric Power Board (EPB), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory as well as strong community and industry support—present a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to have greater regional and national impact.
    Responsibilities of the Department Head include, but are not limited to: being a strong advocate for the department; promoting and supporting teaching, research and scholarly activities, as well as professional service activities; ensuring alignment of the long-term vision and goals of the department with the ones for the college and the university; formulation of a strategic plan for equity, inclusion, and diversity; advancing community engagement; development of initiatives that ensure student success; teaching assignments; and providing sound programmatic, operational, and financial stewardship for the department.
