Seattle Central College has an opening for a full-time, tenure track Economics instructor in the STEM-Business Division. We seek candidates who promote multicultural anti-racist understanding and practice, and who have demonstrated a strong commitment to student learning and educational goal attainment. Primary teaching responsibilities include college-level Economics courses and other courses depending on division needs and instructor's background, as well as non-instructional activities. This position requires the use of a variety of instructional modalities, such as in-person, hybrid, and online, and extensive use of technology.

This instructor will work with the dedicated, collaborative, and supportive faculty and staff of the Business Administration Program and STEM-Business Division. This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning Fall quarter 2021 at Seattle Central College.

What you will be working on:

Teaching/Curriculum/Pedagogy/Assessment
  • Designing and instructing assigned courses (with a focus on Economics) throughout the spectrum of business administration curriculum in a manner that promotes student engagement and success for a diverse student population.
  • Teaching college-level Economics in a variety of formats such as in-class, hybrid, online and at varied class times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs. Teaching, advising, and mentoring students holistically from recruitment to transition.
  • Periodically analyzing the Business Program map and assessment needs based on program data with racial equity considerations at the forefront.
  • Creating unbiased/race-conscious course assessments and evaluations, assessing data, and engaging in continuous improvement of courses based on that analysis in order to advance student achievement of outcomes, success in subsequent courses, and impact on retention, graduation, and successful transition.

Collaboration
  • Leading efforts to advance equitable student success in the Business Administration Program, including closing equity gaps, particularly with regard to race and ethnicity. Working with colleagues to advance the Business Administration Program within the college. Assisting in developing new pathways for students as part of Guided Pathways.
  • Contributing to a collaborative and innovative department, division, and institution. Serving on department, division, college, and/or district-wide committees and be actively involved in institutional initiatives, including district-wide efforts to build an anti-racist institution focused on action to advance access, retention, and success for our systemically non-dominant students and employees.
  • Collaborating with other faculty to implement the program's course schedule, including assisting in planning and staffing course offerings.
  • Working with other academic departments on campus in determining equitable and anti-racist program outcomes, accreditation requirements, and achieving anti-racist degree fulfillment criteria.
  • Form and support strategic partnerships with educational providers, community organizations, and industry to enhance outreach, marketing, recruitment, and scholarship efforts for students, especially diverse populations.

Centering Students
  • Engaging in curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories and research, particularly with regard to serving systemically non-dominant students.
  • Demonstrating cultural humility and intercultural engagement, including an awareness and understanding of historically systematically non-dominant populations, and creating an educational environment that affirms commitment to racial equity and diversity.
  • Creatively designing inclusive learning experiences that extend beyond delivering content and assisting students in achieving course, program, and degree outcomes. Continuously innovating inclusive and active learning experiences (campus, online, hybrid) in response to assessment and evidence/data analysis.
  • Maintaining high, anti-racist standards of excellence in the discipline and teaching methodologies through professional development opportunities.

  • Meeting all professional obligations (Article 6.8) and all other provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, district, college, and division policies.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Education: Graduate degree in Economics OR in a closely related discipline that includes a minimum of 18 credit hours of graduate-level Economics coursework.
  • Teaching: Experience instructing college-level courses in a highly diverse setting OR other similar demonstrated teaching experience.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate and take action with students, faculty, and staff in a way that supports Seattle Central College's Operational Goals.
  • Collaboration: An ability or experience advocating cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to create a positive, caring, and welcoming anti-racist environment that supports student learning and educational attainment.
  • Curriculum: Willingness to utilize a variety of active learning strategies, modalities, instructional technologies, teaching methods, and multimedia tools, or other similar experiences that support and accommodate highly diverse learning populations.
