Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: January 1, 2018

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director of Development is responsible for leading a team of fundraising and advancement professionals and support personnel who are engaged in institutional advancement efforts at Western Illinois University. The Executive Director of Development coordinates and executes a unified and balanced development strategy using all appropriate giving tools to meet fund raising objectives. The Executive Director of Development assists in the planning, execution and management of comprehensive campaigns for Western Illinois University.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and a minimum five years of experience in development, management, leadership, administration, preferably in higher education, or related experience, required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in institution-wide campaign programs is desired. Demonstrate ability to provide management oversight, leadership, and direction with at least five years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience in soliciting and acquiring major and planned gifts. Demonstrated experience in project management, office operations, relationship development, communications and budget oversight. Candidates should have a deep understanding of Western Illinois University and its strategic plan for providing education and research opportunities. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential; computer literacy, including familiarity with data base management and use of spreadsheets. The position also requires the ability to articulate, in both written and in-person communication, the mission and strategic priorities of Western Illinois University and its role in the higher education community and the world. Must be collaborative and have the presence to interact with prospective donors, Board members, and corporate leaders, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and community members at large. Candidate must be transparent, open-minded, resourceful, organized, politically-savvy, results-oriented, and data-driven. Must have ability to work independently and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must possess a willingness and ability to travel.
For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body).

THE DEPARTMENT: The Foundation and Development Office is housed within the Division of Advancement and Public Services which includes the WIU Foundation and Development Office, University Marketing, University Relations, University Television Services, and the Visual Production Center.

The WIU-Macomb and -Quad Cities campuses are comprised of accomplished faculty, state-of-the-art technology and facilities, and a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities. Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,332): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. Moline, Illinois is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
