FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE COORDINATOR (Student Services Professional III)

Primary Duties:
Working independently, under general direction, this position performs complex professional student service work and activities. Responsibilities include academic monitoring and student advising, training and supervision of staff, student interns and student paraprofessionals, coordination of Summer Bridge Program and serving as Lead Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Advisor. The Educational Opportunity Program assists ethnic, low-income, and first generation college students in making a positive transition to CSU, Chico and the surrounding community with the explicit goal of increasing their retention and graduation rates at CSU, Chico. EOP offers a comprehensive program of transitional and support services including an EOP Freshman Year Experience (FYE), Summer Bridge Program, special orientation sessions, counseling, tutoring, academic advising, learning assistance and career exploration to all eligible students.

Required Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
AND
Three years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.

A Masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for year basis.

Special Requirements:
  • The person holding this position is considered a General Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position. This is considered a sensitive position. Current CSU, Chico employees are subject to a background check (including a criminal record check) if voluntarily moving into a sensitive position, regardless of any background checks previously conducted. Incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data, sometimes also referred to as Level 1 protected data. This is confidential information that is in most cases protected by statutes, regulations, or other legal mandates.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Devices used include: personal computer/laptop, multi-line phone, fax, and copier. Position requires frequent use of both standard and specialized computer and online applications. May need to sit or work at a computer terminal for long periods of time on projects; may require walk/travel across campus to other offices or buildings on and off campus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical office environment and equipment are the norm. Position involves frequent interaction with students, faculty and staff to perform student advising and services support functions. Some travel between campus offices and attendance at evening and weekend events is required.
