Position Summary:
South Seattle College is seeking a full-time, tenure track Wine Sales and Marketing Instructor who is invested in innovative curriculum that fosters student engagement. This position is housed in South's Professional Technical division with degree and certificate-seeking students. The division embraces dynamic instruction, inclusively, and student empowerment as essential components in teaching, working, and hiring, and welcomes faculty with a commitment to holistically serving students from diverse backgrounds. This position will work collaboratively with the other faculty to shape the direction of our Wine Technology department. The position starts Spring quarter 2019.


We seek applicants who are enthusiastic about teaching a diverse range of wine courses focusing on marketing, sales and other related business functions in addition to general wine knowledge. The successful candidate will incorporate strategies outside the classroom in hands-on lab instruction in the program's tasting room to apply current marketing trends and innovations in the wine industry. Successful candidates will work effectively with students, colleagues, staff, and community members in a campus climate that promotes student success and multicultural understanding. This position leads the marketing efforts for the wine program as a way to demonstrate the course materials and provide real-world applications to prepare students for industry jobs.

    Candidates should be willing to teach in a variety of formats such as in-class, hybrid, online and varied class times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs.

    Essential Functions:
    • Teach 25 contact hours of wine courses per quarter that reflect innovative and student-centered pedagogy this includes working with students in lab instruction for tasting room, events planning and marketing of the program.
    • In addition to day sections, teaching assignments may include evening, Saturday, online and hybrid sections.
    • Incorporate college success strategies to support underprepared students' academic success, resilience, and goals.
    • Collaborate with Wine Technology department in planning and developing course curriculum, assessments, and course schedules within the context of division goals.
    • Contribute to our culture of engaged teaching and learning by collaborating with fellow faculty and staff on department, division and campus wide initiatives such as Guided Pathways, placement, accreditation, grant initiatives, and assessment.
    • Perform other professional responsibilities as specified in the faculty collective bargaining agreement such as holding office hours and responding to college communications.
    • Cultivate and maintain industry relationships through outreach and community involvement.


    Required Education, Experience & Abilities:
    • Bachelor's Degree OR any combination of relevant education, training and experience that indicates successful performance of the essential functions of the position.
    • Certifications in applicable field of study.
    • Demonstrated experience using instructional strategies that adapt and adjust to students from culturally and academically diverse backgrounds.
    • Experience utilizing instructional technologies and/or modalities (e.g. using Learning Management Systems such as Canvas to teach online, hybrid and/or web-enhanced courses).
    • At least two years of successful experience teaching or training at the college or professional level.
