DEPARTMENT HEAD, HUMAN DEVELOPMENT NURSING SCIENCE



The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Nursing invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Human Development Nursing Science.



The College of Nursing at the University of Illinois Chicago is one of the premier nursing schools in the nation, with undergraduate and graduate programs ranked in the top 20 by U.S. News & World Report and a research enterprise ranked No. 1 in the Midwest and No. 8 nationally for NIH funding. Our mission is to transform health, healthcare and policy through knowledge generation and translation, and also through education of future nurse leaders from diverse backgrounds. More than 1,500 students are enrolled in bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs at our six Illinois campuses: Chicago, Peoria, Rockford, Quad Cities, Springfield and Urbana. We count among our outstanding faculty: seven members of the Sigma International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame; 30 fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN); and six former deans and professors named "Living Legends" of the AAN. The successful candidate for Department Head will promote faculty excellence in scholarship, teaching, and clinical practice; outstanding student achievement; and overall operations of the department. The Department Head is expected to recruit and mobilize accomplished faculty to set the departmental strategic directions and activities that complement and contribute to the strategic directions of our research-intensive College. As a key member of the Dean's leadership team, the Head collaborates with associate and assistant deans and other department heads to provide strategic insight and assists the Dean in setting College of Nursing goals.



This is an administrative scholar position with faculty appointment commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor.



QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate and eligibility for the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor with indefinite tenure.



Thorough knowledge of the academic discipline of nursing.



Program of research consistent with women, children and family nursing sciences scholarship.



Leadership experience in the areas of faculty development, shared governance, budgeting and financial management, marketing, and strategic planning in a research-intensive university.
