Basic Function:
The successful candidate will be responsible for lecture and laboratory instruction in health information technology courses. The assignment may also include courses in other related disciplines. Will also carry primary responsibility as the faculty program director

Education:
Bachelor's degree with at least two years' experience in the Health Information field; OR Associate's degree with at least 6 years' experience in the Health Information field. Must be a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Experience:
Minimum two years experience in the area of health information technology/electronic health records. Demonstrated successful experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in health information technology at an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) accredited educational institution is desired. Understanding of the Commission of Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) accreditation process. Experience preparing CAHIIM reporting for Health Information Technology (HIT) Program Accreditation desired. Demonstrated successful experience teaching online courses. Commitment to use of technology in the teaching and learning experience.

Licenses/Certifications:
AHIMA Certification as Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Other:
Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (E.C. 87360a).

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Teach lecture and laboratory courses in Health Information Technology/Medical Records and/or other related disciplines
2. Adhere to CAHIIM standards by submitting CEU documents required for accreditation.
3. Assist in identifying and establishing student clinical teaching facilities.
4. Advise students enrolled in the Health Information Technology Program.
5. Maintain required office hours and be available for student consultation.
6. Coordinate and oversee the implementation of skills evaluation.
7. Participate in annual program review and self-study reports as required by the College and external accrediting agency.
8. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, and student activities.
9. Other responsibilities include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
10. Supervision of student organizations and other co-curricular activities is expected of all faculty members.
11. Participate in curriculum review and professional development activities.
12. Participate in the review of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

Conditions of Employment:
1. Ten-month, non-tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintain broad knowledge of academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes.
7. Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and appropriate professional activities.
