Job Summary
The Center Academic Innovation (AI) is seeking a Learning Experience Design Certificate Coordinator to join a creative and talented team within the Center for Academic Innovation (AI). Academic Innovation applies expertise in the science of learning to the creation and iteration of online, hybrid, and residential learning experiences. The role and responsibility of this position is to support University of Michigan (U-M) students enrolled in the Rackham Graduate Certificate in Learning Experience Design. This position will report to the Learning Experience Design Lead and also work closely with the Director of Learning Experience Design and Media Design and the Learning Experience Design team.

This position will contribute to the program management and support of the Learning Experience Design (LXD) graduate certificate program. This program combines academic courses on learning theory, curriculum design, multimodal literacies, evaluation, and research design at the School of Education with authentic experiential design opportunities at the Center for Academic Innovation. Graduate students will be well prepared to enter the fields of learning experience design or instructional design in academic and industry settings upon completing this certificate program.

The role and responsibility of this position is to support the 180-hour student residency program where students are immersed in a professionally-oriented experience while collaboratively supervised by U-M faculty and Academic Innovation experts to design, analyze, and implement innovative experiences and tools in online and in-person learning environments. The Learning Experience Design Certificate Coordinator plays a key role in assisting faculty and instructional staff affiliated with the program. The role is a key contributor in expanding the capabilities of AI to achieve our vision of expanding U-M's educational offerings.

Responsibilities*
  • Lead student orientation activities to acclimate students enrolled in the certificate program
  • Develop and maintain onboarding documentation to introduce students to the practices and operations of the Center
  • Maintain up to date records of hours students complete as part of the experiential residency component of the program
  • Create instructional resources to introduce students to the principles and practices of the LXD profession
  • Manage and oversee the experiential learning component of the certificate program
  • Identify opportunities for students to connect and engage with AI staff across a range of projects
  • Liaise between students in the program and AI Learning Experience Designers
  • Design and coordinate a range of enriching co-curricular and professional development opportunities for students in the program
  • Build and sustain community among students enrolled in the certificate program and affiliated staff
  • Support LXD Certificate Program co-directors in the creation of curricular resources that expand the reach and impact of the certificate program, such as by coordinating the development of related online modules and instructional materials

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, learning sciences, instructional design, educational technology, or information science
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience (e.g., program coordination, instructional design, teaching)
  • Demonstrated vision and passion for creating learning experiences that place a high value on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
  • Solid understanding of learning theories, instructional design methods, and learner-centered design principles
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, diplomacy, and service-oriented attitude
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, diplomacy, and service-oriented attitude
  • Experience managing and/or mentoring students, volunteers, or part-time employees
  • Ability to manage workload under time constraints and conflicting demands
  • Ability to effectively build relationships and understand a variety of viewpoints

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, learning sciences, instructional design, educational technology, or information science
  • Familiarity with Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Open Educational Resources (OER), Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Coursera, Canvas, edX and other educational platforms
  • Experience working in K-12 or higher education settings
