Librarian, Global Programs and Undergraduate Learning Coordinator

Basic Function:
Serves as the administrative liaison to global programs (including Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division (IGSD) and Office of Global Partnerships) to facilitate inter-unit collaborations in support of the Project-Based Learning curriculum and associated learning spaces. Provides library support for the Foisie Innovation Studio - including the innovation and entrepreneurship center and the global impact lab - which serves as a hub for WPI's project-based curriculum.

Leads the setting of goals and priorities for library instruction for undergraduate project-based learning, consistent with the library's goals, national standards, and best practices. Coordinates, in collaboration with other instruction librarians, assessment of the library's undergraduate instruction program in support of project-based learning. Provides high level coordination for the distribution of library efforts in support of undergraduate project-based learning, including librarians and staff across all library departments. In partnership with the Librarian, Faculty Development and Research Support Lead, supports faculty in implementing best practices and research in undergraduate project-based learning. Collaborates with the Librarian, Faculty Development and Research Support Lead, and the library's graduate programs support liaison, to coordinate undergraduate project support with MQP (Major Qualifying Project) research support services and with graduate student projects and research support.

As an instructor, partners with faculty and staff to support student learning by assisting in the development, implementation, delivery, and assessment of innovative, focused, and relevant library undergraduate instruction programs including IQP (Interactive Qualifying Project), GPS (Great Problems Seminars), and departmental-based classes. Incorporates appropriate technologies, skills, innovations, and collaborations as needed to provide increasingly sophisticated information literacy instruction throughout the undergraduate curriculum. Provides research and instruction services both in-person and virtually. Participates in the design, development and deployment of tutorials, research guides and other instructional tools in multiple formats and using various instructional technologies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as the librarys administrative liaison to global programs (including the Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division (IGSD) and Office of Global Partnerships) to facilitate inter-unit collaborations in support of the Project-Based Learning curriculum and associated learning spaces.

Provides library support for the Foisie Innovation Studio including the innovation and entrepreneurship center and the global impact lab which serves as a hub for WPIs project-based curriculum.

Facilitates and coordinates undergraduate information competency initiatives and programs for the library in support of project-based learning, and helps develop librarian expertise in library instruction for project-based learning programs. Leads the setting of goals and priorities for undergraduate library instruction consistent with the librarys goals, national standards, and best practices. Establishes and maintains standards of quality for instructional services provided.

Provides high level coordination for the distribution of library efforts in support of undergraduate project-based learning, including librarians and staff across all library departments. In partnership with the Librarian, Faculty Development and Research Support Lead, supports faculty in implementing best practices and research in undergraduate project-based learning.

Assists in the development, implementation, delivery, and assessment of innovative, focused, and relevant library undergraduate instruction programs including IQP, GPS, and departmental-based classes.

Collaborates with the Librarian, Faculty Development and Research Support Lead, and the librarys graduate programs support liaison, to coordinate undergraduate project support with MQP research support services and with graduate student projects and research support.

Cultivates and sustains collaborative relationships with students, staff and faculty in support of campus teaching and learning.

Provides one-on-one and group research consultations, both in person and virtually.

Coordinates, in collaboration with the Access Services department and instruction librarians, the librarys new student orientation program.

Participates in development of instructional materials in all formats, including online tutorials, user guides, and training materials to meet a variety of student needs.

Promotes research and instruction services to the WPI community that support a wide array of information needs.

Participates in professional development as appropriate.

Promotes image and awareness of WPI through external activities.

Participates in library and campus wide committees as appropriate.

Contributes to professional activities and organizations.

Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Other duties as assigned.

Leads the assessment of the library instruction program including development, implementation, and reporting of assessment initiatives for workshops, course-integrated instruction and other project based learning support.

Position Requirements

ALA accredited Masters degree in Library and Information Science.

Minimum of two years reference experience, preferably in science and/or engineering.

Minimum of 5 years teaching and academic library experience, with a proven track record of quality teaching in multiple formats.

Strong leadership skills and ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team and with diverse groups.

Flexibility, creativity and a willingness to take risks and experiment with new methods.

Demonstrated ability to plan, document, and complete projects.

Knowledge of current issues and trends in pedagogy, instructional technologies, and instructional literacies.

Knowledge of, and/or experience with, assessment methods for instruction and the ability to put these methods into practice.

Demonstrated interest in, or experience with, services for the project-based learning curriculum.

Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education.
