Library Maintenance Technician


The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Library Maintenance Technician.

The Library Maintenance Technician provides routine and preventive maintenance on library equipment, as well as coordinating and conducting office moves for the library staff. The Library Maintenance Technician is responsible for identifying and troubleshooting problems with electrical equipment and, in consultation with the Facilities Manager, determines appropriate resolution. The Library Maintenance Technician provides support for staff concerning furniture repairs and replacement and provides backup assistance in the Mail Room, as needed.
Responsibilities include:
  • Maintain an inventory of library furniture and distribute furniture, as needed, to library staff. Repair and maintain furniture in good working condition and recommend replacement of furniture, as necessary.
  • Carry out all aspects of office moves in coordination with the library staff, including evaluation and assessment of network logistical needs, and report any issues to the Facilities Manager.
  • Disassemble and reassemble shelving for library collections, in consultation with library department heads and supervisors to determine shelving availability and best practices.
  • Monitor the building and evaluate and troubleshoot building repair situations that require attention. Fixing problems as required or notifying the Facilities Manager when unable to repair.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains library equipment for the library staff to include lokmobiles, labelers, lamps, laminators, compact shelving, and thermostats
  • Act as backup for the library mailroom to cover, as needed, when the library distribution assistant is absent, and provide additional support when there is a heavier than normal work load in the mailroom.
    Daily expectations for this position include regularly lifting of up to 50 pounds, working with power tools and hand tools, working with objects with sharp metal edges including disassembly, relocation, and reassembly of metal shelving units, and standing on, and working from, ladders up to 12 feet. The level of daily physical exertion is often significant.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma
    • 1 2 years experience
    • 1 year carpentry skills/Basic computer skills/Knowledge of basic electrical/Knowledge of basic HVAC/Knowledge of furniture moving
