The Library Assistant V - Systems assists in the daily operation of the Systems Department. The position provides first-level technical support and troubleshooting for library systems and web interfaces, including the integrated library system (III/Sierra), authentication service (Eduserv/OpenAthens), library website (Springshare/LibGuides), and other critical systems which enable user access to library resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responds to, documents, and troubleshoots problems, errors, or questions related to the functionality or capabilities of library systems and web interfaces. Identifies and determines the cause of problems; investigates and reports on current and available functional and user configurations; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of library systems, systems processes, and web interfaces.

Assists with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of library hardware and software related to library services. Adjusts settings, authorizations, and configuration within library systems to optimize library staff workflows and patron experience in web interfaces.

Communicates with library staff regarding library systems functionality, authorizations, or configuration. Provides training for staff in the use of library systems, peripherals, hardware, and software as needed. Creates training materials for systems functions.

Assists in collecting statistics, generating annual reports, and other projects and reports as requested. Assists in assessing the accessibility, usability, and functionality of the library's web interfaces.

Creates and maintains departmental documentation of workflows, procedures, and policies. Prepares and maintains a procedure manual for routine functions of the position. Participates in cross-training to ensure all departmental responsibilities are performed in case of temporary absence of personnel.

Recruits, hires, trains and supervises student assistants. Oversees, coordinates, and evaluates the work of student assistants engaged in library systems work. Orders departmental supplies and tracks the departmental supply budget.

Participates in staff development activities and stays current with changes in library technology, internet protocols, and other developments in the field. Develops, maintains, and updates technical skills applicable to the position.

Serves on library and USF committees, contributes to library-wide events and initiatives as requested. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent of 5 years performing work relevant to the position in a college or university library preferred, including knowledge of technical services routines in an automated ILS environment (e.g. Innovative Interfaces Sierra). Four years of higher education (120) units or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills with an ability to work with a widely diverse group of people.

A strong working knowledge of computer applications, policies, and procedures used in libraries both in terms of functional operation as well as how component parts of library systems and departments work together to support resource management and access. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem solving skills, including an ability to communicate and document technical problems and steps for resolution. Excellent computer skills including technical proficiency with operating systems, office/productivity software, web design, and hosted library systems or software. Experience in training and demonstrating technologies to people with varying skill sets.

Preferred Experience

Experience maintaining or troubleshooting library patron authentication systems such as OpenAthens, EZProxy, or III's Web Access Management.

Experience working with and exporting data in various formats (XML, CSV, Excel, etc.).

Experience working with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, PHP, user interface design, accessibility, and usability.

Coursework in relevant fields of study, such as computer science, networking, and/or programming.

Minimum Hire In Rate: $49,539.00
