Position Statement:


Candidates are sought for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Howard University.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


The primary responsibility consists of classroom instruction and the instructor is expected to be able to plan and conduct courses with little or no supervision. Candidates should be able to teach a variety of undergraduate Civil Engineering subjects such as Project Management and Engineering Economics, Mechanics of Materials, Mechanics courses (Statics, Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics), and Senior Design. Candidates are not expected to teach in all areas but should have teaching proficiency in more than one subject. Candidates are expected to teach up to 6 courses per academic year.

Qualifications Required:



  • An earned Master's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field

  • Work experience and professional licensure (PE) is preferred

  • Excellent teaching and communication skills

  • Teaching experience in a face-to-face and online environment.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the discipline, Department, and University
