The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the part-time (16 hours a week) classified-hourly position above.

JOB SUMMARY:
Works closely with faculty and Chemistry Laboratory Technician II to provide late afternoon and evening support for chemistry laboratories. Duties include the preparation, set up, distribution, storage, and inventory of necessary equipment and supplies for faculty and students, ensuring a safe and healthy laboratory environment in compliance with District, county, state, and federal regulations, and reporting laboratory status and health or safety related events.

POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:
Position reports to the Dean, Physical Sciences, Math, and Engineering at De Anza College. Academic Day assignment. Not to exceed sixteen (16) hours per week.

DUTIES:
  1. Prepare and set up tools, equipment materials for demonstrations, experiments and instruction for assigned evening labs; inspect lab for safety hazards and make corrections as necessary.
  2. Hand out lab instruments, materials and equipment to students.
  3. Prepare and maintain a variety of records related to laboratory equipment check out procedures for students.
  4. Operate a variety of laboratory equipment; perform minor repairs as needed.
  5. Perform a variety of clerical duties and related duties as assigned, including hazardous waste labeling and disposal.
  6. Maintain stock of required hazardous materials; assure proper compliance with federal and State hazardous materials laws.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Knowledge of:
  1. Computers, including familiarity with Word, Excel, and ClipArt.
  2. Oral and written communication skills.
  3. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  4. Hazardous waste labeling and disposal.

Ability to:
  1. Demonstrate commitment to the increased understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for all cultural groups, women, and the disabled.

  3. Order, receive, and maintain chemical supplies and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Any combination equivalent to High School Graduate AND successful completion of lower division chemistry sequence (Chem 1A, Chem 1B, Chem 1C, Chem 12A, Chem 12B, Chem 12C.)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position: Part-Time, Permanent, Academic-Day-Only (ADO)
Starting date: As soon as possible upon completion of the search process.
Work Schedule: Evening hours Monday - Thursday beginning on or after 5:30PM; exact schedule to be determined as it will be contingent upon the class schedule. Possible Friday hours 9:00AM - 12:00 noon depending on candidate availability and class schedule
