DEFINITION:
Under supervision of the appropriate manager and general lead of the area Librarian, the Library Technician III provides support and oversight in a technical or public service area, and serves as a collegial member of the Library staff and College community. The qualified individual, with demonstrated library clerical, technical and customer service skills, may serve in different areas of the Library and will perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):
  • Checks, diagnoses, repairs, replaces, adjusts and/or installs plumbing systems consisting of, but not limited to drains, sewers, sumps, sump pumps, toilets, traps, urinals, water filtration systems, distilled water systems, R.O. water systems, drinking fountains, hose bibs, backflow devises, vacuum systems, small domestic hot water heaters, and piping normally associated with plumbing systems
  • Prepares requisitions for necessary parts and equipment; determines cost of materials and labor and/or coordinates repairs, recommends replacement when necessary, or if repair is not feasible
  • Checks, evaluates, adjusts and services diagnoses, and maintains plumbing systems consisting of, but not limited to drains, sewers, sumps, sump pumps, toilets, traps, urinals, water filtration systems, distilled water systems R.O. water systems, drinking fountains, hose bibs, backflow devises, vacuum systems, small domestic hot water heater, and piping normally associated with plumbing systems

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (CONTINUED):
  • Assists with layout and installs major equipment; plans layout and installs minor equipment relating to plumbing systems
  • Performs pipe cutting threading, fitting, and soldering relating to plumbing systems
  • Reports equipment problems, malfunctions, and operational status to supervisor
  • Answers emergency calls at all hours, as needed
  • At the request of a supervisor, performs a variety of unscheduled duties generally related to the functions of the plumbing trade and other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and five years of apprenticeship, or five years' full-time documented work experience in plumbing and at least one year of full-time experience as a licensed journey plumber.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment standard to the plumbing trade
  • Documentation of work experience and Journeyman Plumbers License
  • A valid California Driver License

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various District and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 75 pounds, walk and stand for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of hand-power tools, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, and kneeling or crouching.

    A pre-employment physical examination is required. Cost of physical will be paid by Pasadena City College.

    ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:
    Employees work indoor/outdoor environment typical to servicing offices, classrooms, meeting and training rooms, sports facilities, performance halls or libraries involving normal everyday with moderate noise levels. Ventilation and lighting are inherent in the work environment typical to a community college. Temperature conditions vary including occasional inclement weather conditions. Employees may interact with students, faculty, administrations and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

    PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
    Six months

    EXEMPT POSITION:
    This is not an exempt position and is subject to overtime.

    Salary and other terms of employment are competitive.     CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Successful completion of background and fingerprint clearance and TB screening.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per government codes 3100-3109.
