Job Description:
Madison College is recruiting a pool of highly motivated and qualified candidates to teach part-time for the Health Services Simulation program. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis for the 2019-2020 academic school year. ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIPS:
The Simulation Coordinator position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Health Simulation Center at Madison Area Technical College. The Simulation Coordinator overseas the preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation of all simulation equipment/supplies and collaborates with faculty to design, plan, implement simulation instruction and activities. The coordinator ensures adherence to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes and current simulation best practice and safety measures.

This position reports to the Simulation Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

1. Coordinate the general operation of the simulation center to provide a wide variety of patient simulation experiences.
2. Assist with the regular maintenance and repair all simulation equipment, including:
  • Human patient simulators (HPS), computers, monitors and a variety of clinical medical equipment.
  • Audiovisual and debriefing systems.
  • Surgical simulators.
  • Virtual reality laboratory computers and other equipment.

3. Communicate effectively with manufactures regarding maintenance, repair, update and technology changes.
4. Assists with upgrades to software and equipment as needed.
5. Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals including:
  • Beds/examination tables, headwalls, patient monitors, and other health care equipment
  • Medication dispensing systems
  • Vital sign monitors

6. Organize and restock simulation laboratory supplies.
7. Oversee the set up and take down of simulation laboratory equipment - allowing for rapid turnover of simulation lab set up as necessary.
8. Provide recommendations for equipment and supply purchase anticipating future changes in technology.
9. Ensures safety for all users.
10. Collaborate effectively with faculty.
11. Incorporate best practice and evidenced-based research in program development with a focus on standardization and efficiencies across the healthcare continuum.
12. Assist in the development and implementation of curricula for Pre-Medicine, Nursing, and allied health training programs. This includes development of simulation component for staff and student competency training.
13. Participate in faculty and department meetings to assist with development and implementation of simulation experiences.
14. Communicate effectively all simulation laboratory educators, administrative staff and simulation specialists.
15. Create a positive work environment demonstrating leadership for simulation center staff.
16. Provide orientation to new simulation lab staff.
17. Communicates with Director regarding compliance with simulation center policies working to prevent scheduling conflicts.
18. Network with other lab/simulation coordinators at local/state/national level to develop and utilize best practices.
19. Maintain learner confidentiality.
20. Provide center tours.
21. Performs other job-related duties as required.
22. Assume faculty educator role for simulation as content expert where applicable based on program experience.
23. Conduct debriefing within scope of knowledge or assist content expert with debriefing.
24. Develop simulation curricula to support course and department outcomes.
25. Create and implement educational programs for new simulation faculty including prebriefing, simulation and debriefing.
26. Conduct simulation exercises for Basic Life Support, ACLS, NRP and PALS.
27. Comply with college policies, directives, and work rules.
28. Continually improve teaching through professional development activities and the integration of new techniques and technology. This includes the development and implementation of individualized professional development plan.
29. Maintain a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS:
1. Minimum two years' experience in healthcare simulation as an educator or simulation technician.
2. Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.
3. Familiarity with anesthesia machines, physiological monitoring system, infant incubators, ventilators, and other common medical device systems.
4. Ability to meet challenges of adult learners with diverse backgrounds.
5. Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field such as EMT, paramedic, or other allied health profession certification and training.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.
7. Experience with providing technical support in networking, computer hardware or software.
8. Familiarity with PC and Mac platforms with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
9. Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, networking, etc.
10. Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.
11. Ability to deliver complex schedules.
12. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
13. Ability to quickly learn new technology.
14. Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate's degree in healthcare field: Paramedic, medic, EMT, emergency tech, nurse, Respiratory Therapist
2. Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.
3. Combination of education, training and/or experience, which can be demonstrated to result in possession of the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of this position.
4. Instructor BLS, ACLS, NRP PALs preferred.
5. Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred.
6. Commitment to obtain CHSOS within two years of hire date.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Part-time Instructors are hired on a per course basis each semester, and teaching one semester does not guarantee assignment for the following semester. The teaching hours for a part-time instructor vary and can include day, evening, and weekend classes.
