Job Summary
The Perioperative Safety and Quality Improvement Program (PSQIP) encompasses a diverse set of initiatives to ensure that the procedural care delivered by Michigan Medicine providers is safe for patients and of the highest quality. The PSQIP Project Manager will lead specific area initiatives focused on patient safety and quality improvement. This program will span Michigan Medicine, including UH OR, CVC OR, Mott OR, Kellogg, CPU, MPU and ambulatory surgery centers and procedure areas. The employee will work closely with leadership from the Clinical Departments, MPLAN and segments, Quality Department, OR and procedural areas to plan, coordinate, implement, and sustain quality and safety projects. The incumbent will coordinate implementation efforts in complex clinical environments that involve multiple stakeholders. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience with strategic thinking and its application to healthcare processes and practices to further innovative solutions for patient safety and quality improvement.

Responsibilities*
80% Complex Project Management
  • Under the direction of the Clinical Quality Medical Director, Administrative Director and the PSQIP Medical Director, assumes responsibility for the management, performance, and completion of multiple concurrent projects focused on procedural area safety and quality
  • Maintains effective and transparent documentation by developing detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
  • Conducts effective project meetings.
  • Prepares communication planning and presentations for a variety of audiences including senior leadership.
  • Identifies and assesses issues, risks, and interdependencies, determines root causes, and recommends sustainable improvements.
  • Manages the integration of team-members' tasks and deliverables.
  • Prepares and manages project budgets by forecasting requirements and tracking expenditures.

15% Committee Membership
  • Represents Clinical Quality and the Perioperative Safety and Quality Program on a variety of institutional committees
  • Advocates for the highest level of quality and safety within the perioperative space.
  • Upon request, presents relevant data and information to institutional committees and other stakeholders.

5% Other duties and projects as assigned from Medical Director or Administrative Director.

Required Qualifications*
  • A Bachelor's degree in business, health care, education, or engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience with demonstrated progressive responsibilities in some form of project management.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data as well as synthesize it for customers to address project and performance issues, milestones, and tracking.
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management, techniques, and tools.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, risk management, and change management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, and understanding of complex organizations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate adaptability and commitment to embracing change within ambiguous environments.
  • Detail-oriented and able to bring structure to an unstructured environment.
  • Experience with information management software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Project.

Desired Qualifications*
  • A degree in nursing, pharmacy, or an allied health profession with prior clinical experience
  • Prior clinical experience in operating room and/or perioperative environments
  • Master's in Business or Health administration preferred
  • 6+ years of experience in a project management role in a consulting setting, academic medical center, major teaching hospital or health insurance company
  • Project Management Profession (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and procedures.
