Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE). The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of engineering leadership and high-quality research and teaching in civil and environmental engineering. Required qualifications for the position include: an earned doctorate in civil engineering or physical science related to civil and environmental engineering, demonstrated excellence in teaching, an international reputation with a distinguished record in scholarship and funding, academic credentials appropriate for appointment as a full, tenured Professor at WPI, with administrative experience. Candidates with experience in structural engineering, autonomous vehicles and/or transportation engineering are encouraged to apply. Evidence of successful collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams is also highly encouraged. The selected candidate is also expected to support the teaching mission, project advising and the research mission of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, while providing service to the civil engineering community and WPI. The candidate must also demonstrate strong management and mentoring ability, and a clear vision for the future of the department.

The new Head will be expected to build on the department's recognized strengths, recruit outstanding faculty, promote scholarly initiatives, facilitate internal and external research collaborations and oversee curriculum changes. Furthermore, the candidate must be able to foster corporate relations, promote new funding opportunities through research and advancement, steer the department through an exciting period of growth and change in the field, and lead the department to its next level of excellence and visibility.

The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at WPI has an ABET accredited program with (http://www.wpi.edu/academics/cee/) 17 full-time faculty members. It offers undergraduate degrees in civil engineering, environmental engineering and architectural engineering to 300 students. The department also offers graduate degrees in civil and environmental engineering to 80 graduate students.
