Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Counseling Center–Requisition # 18000001QW

The expected annual compensation for this position will be $95,000 - $100,000

This position is for a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) who is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) with specialized, advanced education and clinical competency to provide behavioral health care for a diverse population in a university setting. Responsibilities include:

Patient Care:
  • Psychiatric diagnostic evaluations; prescribe medications; develop treatment plans
  • Evaluate students to determine psychiatric risk for suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and psychosis
  • Provide psychiatric urgent care in crisis situations
  • Assess social/economic factors for each patient to individualize care
  • Assess response of medication interventions and revises interventions to achieve optimum result
  • Collaborate, consult, and coordinate patient care with Student Health Services (SHS) providers as needed

    Administrative Tasks:
  • Complete medical-need forms for students seeking insurance benefits for medication
  • Respond to any client messages taken down by front office staff
  • Respond to prescription refill requests
  • Respond to insurance company inquiries
  • Work through Titanium Task List to ensure notes are completed and signed
  • Consult with Physician monthly and PRN for case consultation

    Consulting in UTC Counseling Center:
  • Attending and participating in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings
  • Collaborate and coordinate patient care with Counseling Center clinical staff as needed

    Qualifications:
    Master's degree in Nursing with current licensure as an APRN in Tennessee is required. Doctoral degree in Nursing with current licensure as an APRN in Tennessee is preferred. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by ANCC or AANP/Current DEA certification is required. Two years' recent practice as PMHNP is required. Must demonstrate working knowledge of pharmaceuticals, side effects and potential problems with medicine combinations. Must possess a high level of social perceptiveness; display exceptional customer service skills. Must demonstrate strong active learning skills as well as complex problem solving abilities. Must exhibit strong organizational skills and effective time management abilities. Must exhibit superior critical thinking and analytical skills. Must possess strong active listening skills and reading comprehension abilities. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Competency in using electronic medical records and information systems in providing effective documentation of patient care is preferred. Occasional evenings are required.
