Senior Design Engineer


The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Senior Design Engineer.

Applications will be accepted until 2/19/2018.

This position will support the research efforts of the Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory. Our mission is to develop advanced technologies for the next generation of gas-turbine engines.
The Senior Design Engineer will lead projects to accomplish the design, analysis and procurement of high-speed turbomachinery test articles, facilities and related hardware. The position will involve project management of engineer tasks required for multi-year sponsored research programs.
The successful candidate must be familiar with industry standards in technical project management, design and fabrication, common machining practices, 3D solid modeling CAD systems(ProE/Creo/Unigraphics/NX) and high-precision, safety critical parts.
The successful candidate will be in direct contact with purchasing agents, sponsor program managers and engineers, facilities managers, turbomachinery technicians, test engineers, designers, and drafters to execute all engineering tasks.
Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with outside vendors to provide parts and services not available from the University is also the responsibility of the Senior Design Engineer.
The successful candidate will need the ability to multi-task and interact successfully with individuals with varying levels of experience while working closely with faculty, staff, and students. The candidate must be able to organize and prioritize work independently and meet critical deadlines in a fast paced environment where creativity and flexibility is highly regarded. The ability to teach oneself and others new skills as required is also essential.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree (4 years) in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related field
7 or more years experience
Demonstrated engineering skills including Finite Element Analysis, hand calculations, mechanical design, cost tracking and schedule management, Familiarity with testing, instrumentation and methods
Expertise with the CAD packages used by ND Turbo
Expertise with MATLAB
Expertise with ANSYS and other FEA tools
Experience related to the aerospace industry
Experience in turbomachinery component design This position requires candidates to be a US Citizen or hold a Green Card.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. or Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering or related #LI-POST
