Position Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reporting Relationship: Director of Accounting/External Reporting
Location: Main Campus
Rate of Pay: $45,596 - $56,870 annual salary depending on experience
POSITION SUMMARY
To maintain the fixed assets ledger and to support accounts payable functions
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Post capitalization entries for capital projects
Complete accounting for capital equipment, including tagging equipment, performing annual inventory and updating disposed assets
Evaluate open purchase orders to determine what needs to be open/closed/processed
Review financial statements and recommend changes, as needed
Compile year end reports and schedules
Review and approve keyed invoices
Advise and support accounts payable on problematic invoices; prepare year end entries for accounts payable
Innovate, develop and implement processes to improve efficiencies within department
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a Bachelor's degree in another field with a minimum of 18 credit hours in accounting
4 years of accounting experience
Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and their application, as well as familiarity with applicable federal and state laws
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CPA licensure or actively working towards CPA licensure
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to interpret and apply relevant College policies and procedures, as well as Tennessee Board of Regents policies and state and federal regulations
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial and procedural issues quickly and easily
Sound judgement and effective decision-making skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, balance competing priorities and meet deadlines
Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain solid working relationships across departments and with diverse constituencies
ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical climate-controlled office environment; no exposure to loud noises, extreme temperature fluctuations or unnecessary interruptions. May require occasional travel throughout the service area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting for extended periods of time but allows for standing and walking around some of the time. Occasional lifting of objects up to ten pounds. Requires extended communication via telephone, ongoing use of keyboard and mouse and focusing on computer screen for extended periods of time.
