This is a full-time, exempt, 52 weeks per year position. Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., some flexibility required.

Madison College offers a generous benefit program including health and dental benefits. The employee selected will serve a twelve (12) month introductory period. This position does not offer a relocation package.

SUMMARY:

This position serves as a generalist for student support for the TRIO Disability Program and as a liaison with Disability Resource Services. This position will assist in the delivery of comprehensive disability resource services to students in the TRIO Disability program that will guide them to develop meaningful Personal Educational Plans (PEP's) that are compatible with their academic, career and life goals. This position assists current students who are in a program and are receiving Disability Resource Services in implementing and insuring accessibility to all college functions; and provides disability-related academic, career, and personal guidance; disability awareness advocacy, and general support to assist TRIO Disability program students in achieving their goals.

This position assists in the coordination and implementation of TRIO Disability programs, procedures, and guidelines at the assigned Madison College campus(es) and/or centers; specifically, this position works with students, faculty, staff and guests at the Truax campus.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with faculty and other Madison College staff/services. Promotes access for TRIO students with disabilities to programs, facilities and communication so that students with disabilities will not be excluded from full participation in the educational process. Works to eliminate barriers to said access promoting Universal Design.
  • Assist students in securing disability assessment if current documentation is outdated, inadequate, or incomplete. Evaluates and continuously assesses social, medical, vocational and psychiatric information of prospective and current students with disabilities and monitors student academic progress toward educational goals. Consults with relevant professionals with appropriate releases of information as needed.
  • Advises and coordinates programs and services for students with disabilities on academic, career, and personal matters using a developmental approach. Participates in appropriate disability-related programs and outreach activities that impact students with disabilities at Madison College, particularly special orientation programs, programs for parents of students with disabilities and interested others, including community groups, agencies, schools and individuals.
  • College-wide advocacy-work to eliminate attitudinal barriers including stereotyping and discrimination towards students with disabilities as well as enhancing sensitivity and awareness through faculty and staff training.
  • Provide student with the information and assistance they need to overcome barriers in order to access college experiences/expectations and college-wide technology/communication processes.
  • Collaborates and consults with instructional, disability resource service, student success services, development and community agency staff in providing designated referral and support services as well as assessing the psycho-social impact of the disability on the student's academic progress and on those with whom he/she interacts. Provide ongoing/long-term disability related vocational, academic, career and personal counseling (guidance), case-management/support.
  • Holistically advises students about career options, admission requirements, programs of study, transfer opportunities, degree requirements and overall academic planning. Assists in the development, coordination, and presentation of information individually and in group settings (classroom visits, workshops, advising & registration events, etc.). Serves as a TRIO advising liaison on College projects, committees and work groups. Resolves student questions or concerns regarding academic policy and procedures and refers to appropriate resources when necessary.
  • Supports students in planning their educational experience including creating a Personal Education Plan (PEP), identifying academic support needs, time management and related strategies for success. Develops academic plans for students on College SAP (Academic Alert and Probation) and students on Financial Aid SAP (Suspension). Assists with Early Alerts (EA) from faculty and staff to successful resolution (assess situation, determine possible solutions); monitors progress; communicates with students and faculty; tracks EA data, completes processing and reports. Provides information and referrals for personal and academic support services including counseling, Veteran Resource Services, Disability Resource Services, mentoring, financial planning, employment support, first-generation services, conflict resolution, tutoring and supplemental instruction. Utilizes developmental advising techniques and success strategies to advocate for and support the individual needs of each student. Assists in development and facilitation of innovative, proactive retention activities and programming for TRIO students. Promotes a culture of access, inclusivity and equity. Respects, advocates for and supports the diversity of students and the college community. Keeps accurate records of student participation in services and activities and collects participant data to support program evaluation.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values. Comply with college policies, directives, and work rules. Engages positively with colleagues, handles conflict directly and professionally, contributes to team discussions, collaborates and helps colleagues, assumes the best from colleagues, provides and accepts constructive feedback, follows through on commitments, and supports final decisions that are made.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of student development theory and practice.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing and providing accommodations for persons with disabilities, including thorough knowledge of physical and mental disabilities, including physical and functional capabilities, psycho-social aspects, and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of career development and career planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements and ethical standards related to serving students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of evaluation/assessment theory and techniques with the ability to interpret basic assessments and other tests.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation psychology, special education, education, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, human services, social work, or a related field. Master's degree in rehabilitation psychology, special education, education, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, human services, social work preferred.

**Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement should be in addition to the minimum years required for the position.

2. Five (5) years (10,000 hours) of directly related work experience with educational or community based organizations, which serve minorities, disadvantaged women and men, the mentally/physically or otherwise disabled, and other special populations .

3. Career Development Facilitator certification or the ability to attain certification within twelve (12) months of employment preferred.

4. Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Social Worker preferred.
