Job Description:
The Office of Student Services serves as an advocate for students. Students rights and responsibilities are an integral part of the Dean of Students office; administering standards in a fair and respectful manner. The student services department plays a primary role in providing and creating a student centered environment. The office provides knowledgeable answers to students, staff, faculty and the public. The office maintains an open door policy in addressing each student issue individually. The annual Commencement and New Student Orientations event preparations are functions of this Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to deal effectively with students, staff, faculty and the public
Work independently and exercise discretion in dealing with confidential information and
sensitive student situations
Organize work, type correspondence and purchase orders
Monitor budget expenditures and distribute budgets to each department
Assist in the coordination of the College's Commencement ceremony and the Coordination of the Graduation Booth and Onward campaign for graduates
Familiarity with the policies and procedures of the Dean of Students Office as well as the College
Prepare Common Applications for transferring students
Provide Youth Learner information to parents/students and coordinate meetings for enrollment to the College
Perform code of conduct background checks of any student disciplinary action (FBI, Colleges, Businesses)
Verification of and attendance of students to faculty as well as notification of students illness and leaves of absence from coursework
Assist in new student orientations, welcome month, and peak advising and registrations periods
Perform other related duties as assigned
Additional responsibilities
Serve as a back-up for the Staff Associate to the Vice-President of Student Services & Enrollment Management
Attends professional development conferences, college meetings, division meetings
Coverage of offices in the Student Services and Enrollment Management Division as needed. Participate in student services and enrollment management meetings, new student orientation committee, Enrollment Planning and Implementation Committee, and other meetings and trainings as requested.
In addition to the Dean of Students, assist the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities and Director of Minority Mentorship and First year experience
Maintain office stability during the timeframe(s) of the absence of a Dean of Students Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree required, Bachelors preferred with minimum of 3 years working in a community college or college setting.
Possess computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher.
Knowledge of SCT Banner, Ellucian, and Advocate
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills and planning abilities
The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential
